Datalogic Skorpio X40 — Keypad Mobile Computer with Long-Range Scanning
Long-range 2D · Green Spot29-key numeric keypadAndroid 15 · 6/128 GBWi-Fi 6E · 7000 mAh
The Datalogic Skorpio X40 946400010 is a rugged handheld Android mobile computer with a physical 29-key numeric keypad and a long-range 2D imager, built for warehouses, distribution centres and yards where staff scan barcodes on high racking and enter quantities all day. The physical keys work with gloves, which touch-only devices cannot match.
This configuration runs Android 15 with Google Mobile Services on the Qualcomm Dragonwing QCM4490 platform, with 6 GB RAM, 128 GB flash, a 4-inch display, Wi-Fi 6E, a 13 MP camera and a 7000 mAh battery. Datalogic Green Spot projects a green dot on the scanned code to confirm a good read in noisy environments.
Before you order: This is the Wi-Fi-only Skorpio X40. If you need mobile data (5G) choose the Skorpio X45. Make sure you order the long-range, 29-key numeric version: Datalogic also sells standard-range scanners and 39-key and 48-key keypads under the same model name.
What's in the Box
- Datalogic Skorpio X40 handheld (946400010)
- 7000 mAh battery
- Hand strap
- Keyboard overlays
- Charging docks, power supplies and spare batteries are separate accessories
What It Means in Practice
- The long-range imager reads labels on upper rack levels without a ladder; for close-range retail scanning a standard-range model is enough.
- A numeric keypad speeds up quantity and location entry in WMS and ERP apps, and works with gloves.
- Wi-Fi 6E uses the 6 GHz band where your access points support it, for less crowded connections in busy sites.
- Plan docks per shift: 4-slot charge-only (94A150143) or charge + Ethernet (94A150144), plus spare batteries (94ACC0440) for multi-shift use.
What Will Not Work
- There is no mobile network (4G/5G) on the X40 — that is the X45.
- It is not a pistol-grip unit; the gun-to-handheld conversion kit and handle are separate accessories.
- Apps built only for older Windows CE/Mobile terminals will not run on Android.
- It does not come with a charging dock.

Frequently Asked Questions
Long-range or standard-range — which do I need?
Long-range (this unit) is for reading labels at a distance, such as upper racking or pallets. For counter or shelf-edge scanning at arm length, a standard-range Skorpio X40 is the better fit.
Will our warehouse app run on it?
Any Android app that supports Android 15 should run. Old Windows CE/Mobile applications need an Android version or a browser-based client. Tell us your WMS and we will check.
Which accessories should I order with it?
At minimum a dock or battery charger and, for multi-shift work, a spare battery per device. We can quote a complete kit.
Singular Expert Insight · Buyer's Guide
Keypad terminals remain the fastest option for warehouse staff who enter quantities all day, and long-range scanning removes ladder trips. Before rollout, check that your Wi-Fi coverage reaches the aisles — our business
access points support the bands these devices use.
✓ Buy it if you need a rugged Android keypad terminal that scans labels at distance in a warehouse or yard.
✕ Skip it if you need mobile data (choose X45), a pistol-grip unit, or only close-range scanning.
→ Also consider Skorpio X45 with 5G, or the standard-range Skorpio X40 versions.
Planning a rollout? Send us your WMS/ERP app and number of users and shifts, and we will check compatibility and the accessories you need.
