Portable duplex document capture with clear USB-C power requirements
30ppm / 60ipm20-sheet duplex ADF600dpi opticalUSB-C 3.2 Gen 1
The Brother ADS-1300 is a compact, portable A4 document scanner with a 20-sheet automatic feeder and 2-sided colour scanning up to 30ppm or 60ipm. USB Type-C supports a suitable powered computer connection, while three personalised shortcut buttons and a dedicated plastic ID card slot simplify regular capture tasks. The exact ADS1300 model has buttons rather than a touchscreen and does not include Wi-Fi.
Best For: Home offices and mobile professionals scanning suitable loose documents and ID cards through a compatible powered USB-C setup.
Before you order: Check power before ordering: USB-C operation needs a 15W source rated 5V/3A, which is not included. Not every laptop USB-C port provides this power. A USB Type-A-to-Type-C cable does not support USB power for this scanner; use the appropriate optional AC-power arrangement where needed. Optical resolution is 600dpi, with 1200dpi interpolated output.
What's in the Box
- Brother ADS-1300 scanner and detachable ADF.
- USB cable, Quick Setup Guide and Product Safety Guide.
- Warranty documentation; no regional extension is promised.
- AC adapter, output tray and carrier sheets are optional. Laptop, USB flash drive and sample documents are separate.
What It Means in Practice
- Scan both sides of supported paper batches with the 20-sheet ADF, rated at 80g/m² A4/Letter.
- Use up to three personalised device shortcuts for regular scan activities.
- Scan supported plastic ID cards through the dedicated slot with correct orientation and thickness.
- Use compatible software for PC and cloud workflows, or a supported USB flash drive through the rear USB host.
What Will Not Work
- USB-C power requires the specified 15W source; connector shape alone does not establish compatibility.
- No battery, integrated flatbed, Ethernet, Wi-Fi or touchscreen is established for ADS1300.
- Do not transfer the older ADS1200 speed or power specifications to this product.
- Use media within the applicable size, weight and thickness limits; long-paper scanning requires the appropriate mode.
- Software functions and supported operating systems vary; verify current Brother downloads for the intended computer.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will any USB-C laptop power it?
No. Confirm that the port supplies 5V/3A, 15W. The manufacturer requires a suitable USB-C source; the source is not included.
Can I use a USB-A-to-C cable for power?
Brother states that USB Type-A-to-Type-C cables do not support USB power for this scanner. Check the optional AC-power arrangement for that installation.
Does it have Wi-Fi or a touchscreen?
No. Those features must not be transferred from related ADS1800W models. ADS1300 uses buttons and USB connectivity.
Can I scan without saving to a computer?
Supported USB flash drives can be used through the USB host, with suitable power and correct media format. Cloud functions depend on the supported software/workflow.
Singular Expert Insight
Start by checking the power source and scan destination. A compact scanner is only portable in practice when its host supplies the required power and its software matches the workflow. Test representative documents, and use the dedicated card path and correct long-paper mode rather than assuming all originals share one feed setting.
Buyer’s Guide
✓ Buy it if You need compact duplex scanning with a suitable 15W USB-C setup.
✕ Skip it if You need battery operation, Wi-Fi, flatbed glass or guaranteed power from any USB port.
