The Good Connections OM3 multimode fiber optic patch cable connects an LC port to another LC port over 2 m of 50/125 µm duplex fibre, made for the fiber ports of switches, servers, media converters and patch panels.
It suits IT technicians and installers who need a short jumper inside a rack on an OM3 link — OM3 is the grade used for 10G and faster short-reach links in server rooms and data centres.
Before you order: This is a multimode cable. It only works with short-range multimode transceivers (SX/SR, 850 nm) on multimode cabling — check the transceiver label before you order.

What It Means in Practice
- Two fibres in one jacket: one carries transmit (Tx), the other receive (Rx) — one cable is a complete link between two duplex ports.
- OM3 multimode is rated for 10GBASE-SR links up to 300 m and 25GBASE-SR up to 70 m; at 2 m the cable length never limits the link — the transceivers do.
- 2 m is the cable length end to end. Good for a jumper within the same rack or to the next one.
- If the link stays down after plugging in, the Tx/Rx pair is crossed: swap the two fibres at one end — the duplex clip on this cable is designed to let you swap polarity.
- Minimum bend radius is 7.5 mm — tidy it with soft velcro ties, never with tight plastic cable ties.
- Uniboot design: both fibres run in one round jacket with a single boot, so it takes less space in dense switch fronts than a classic zip-cord.
- A release tab lets you unplug the LC connector in densely populated ports without reaching between neighbouring cables.
- Jacket colour helps you identify the fibre at a glance in a busy rack: aqua is the usual colour for OM3 (and some OM4); this cable is aqua.
- To extend a run, join two cables with an LC coupler of the same fibre type; every joint adds about 0.3 dB of loss, so on short links it does not matter, but a single longer cable is always cleaner.
What Will Not Work
- It will not work with singlemode transceivers (LX/LR, 1310/1550 nm) or on a singlemode (yellow) backbone — multimode and singlemode cannot be mixed.
- It does not fit SC/ST/MPO/MTP ports — check the connector on both devices.
- It does not mate with APC (green, angled) connectors or couplers — those need an APC cable.
- It does not plug into copper RJ45 ports — a switch needs an SFP/SFP+ slot with a fiber transceiver, or a media converter.

This Good Connections cable is the right choice when both ends are LC multimode and the run is 2 m. Pair it with the matching SFP/SFP+ modules on your network switches. In a rack we recommend ordering one spare jumper per link type and labelling both ends — it turns a midnight outage into a two-minute swap.
