The DIGITUS AK-300146-010-S is a 1 m USB-C to USB-A cable built to the USB 3.2 Gen 2 standard, moving data at up to 10 Gbit/s — twenty times the throughput of an ordinary USB 2.0 charging lead. It is the cable to use between a computer’s USB-A port and a portable SSD, card reader or docking device that has a USB-C socket.

Both ends have to keep up. The full 10 Gbit/s only happens when the host port is itself USB 3.1 Gen 2 or faster; plugged into a blue USB 3.0 port the link runs at 5 Gbit/s, and into a black USB 2.0 port at 480 Mbit/s. Power is limited to 5 V/3 A (15 W), so this is a data cable, not a laptop charging lead.

Is this fast enough for an external SSD?
Yes, for the great majority of them. A 10 Gbit/s link sustains roughly 1,000 MB/s in practice, which is at or above what most portable NVMe enclosures deliver. Only 20 Gbit/s and USB4 drives will be held back, and those need a USB-C port at both ends anyway.
Can it charge a laptop?
No. DIGITUS rates it at 5 V/3 A, that is 15 W — enough for phones, drives and accessories but nowhere near a notebook. Use a 60 W or 100 W e-marked USB-C cable for that, and note that USB-A ports do not supply laptop-level power in any case.

Most USB-C to USB-A cables in a drawer are USB 2.0 charging leads, and they quietly throttle a fast drive to a crawl. This DIGITUS is the opposite case: a genuine 10 Gbit/s cable with double shielding and mixed 24/28 AWG conductors, sold at a price that makes it worth buying specifically for the external-drive job and labelling it so it does not get mixed up.
