Build portable storage for large creative files
USB4 40GbpsNVMe 2230/2280Active coolingTool-free
The ProArt PA40SU is an empty USB4 enclosure that turns your separately purchased M.2 NVMe SSD into portable storage. Install a supported 2230 or 2280 M-key drive, close the tool-free housing and connect the supplied USB-C cable to your computer. The active cooling fan helps manage heat during sustained file transfers. No SSD is supplied; the supported drive capacity is up to 4TB.
Before you order:
For the full interface capability, the host must support USB4 40Gbps and the entire chain must be suitable. ASUS advises using the supplied high-speed cable, an SSD rated above 3,500MB/s sequential reads, updated system software and chipset drivers. A Thunderbolt or USB-C label alone does not guarantee maximum performance.
What's in the Box
- ProArt PA40SU enclosure
- USB-C to USB-C cable
- Quick installation guide and user manual
- SSD purchased separately
What It Means in Practice
- Copy footage or project folders from your workstation to an installed SSD, then connect the enclosure to another supported computer to continue working.
- The fan provides active heat management, which is useful for extended transfers; it does not remove host, drive or workload speed limits.
- Prepare or format a new SSD in your operating system before storing files, and choose a filesystem suitable for the computers that will access it.
What Will Not Work
- There is no storage capacity until you install a compatible SSD.
- M.2 SATA drives and unlisted M.2 sizes are outside the verified NVMe 2230/2280 support.
- A standard charging cable or slower host cannot carry the maximum USB4 data rate.
Key Features
USB4 for a compatible storage chain
The USB-C connector carries up to 40Gbps USB4 data. Actual file speed depends on the SSD, cable, host bandwidth, operating system and workload.
Smart active cooling
A four-level fan and vented housing manage heat during extended work. The slim Stealth Black enclosure measures 13.5mm high and weighs 127g.
Accessible installation and monitoring
Push-to-open access simplifies SSD fitting. ProArt SSD Dashboard shows drive status, health and performance through its monitoring interface.
