ASUS ROG Ranger BP2701 Cybertext Edition — 22 L, Reflective Cybertext
17" Laptop · 22 L10 Interior + 3 Exterior PocketsWater-Repellent Polyester and PUReflective Cybertext Script · Grey
The ASUS ROG Ranger BP2701 is a 22 litre gaming backpack measuring 49 x 31.5 x 15.5 cm, with a padded laptop compartment of 41.5 x 29.3 x 2.6 cm. ASUS builds it from polyester and PU with water-repellent, anti-scratch leatherette and water-repellent zippers. Storage is the point: ASUS publishes 10 interior pockets and compartments plus 3 exterior pockets, including a tablet compartment, three quick-access pockets for a cable, power bank and mouse, a Lycra pocket, and concealed rear pockets for personal items. There is room for a full-size keyboard, mouse and mouse pad, headset and charger. Three meshed back pads create channels for airflow, the shoulder straps are padded Lycra with an adjustable chest strap, and a luggage strap secures the pack to a suitcase. The exterior carries ASUS’s reflective cybertext lettering alongside the bold slashes and holographic ROG logo. It weighs 0.98 kg and is made in China.
Compatibility — check before buying:
ASUS publishes two different laptop-size figures for this bag and both are genuine. The Tech Specs table lists compatibility as 17 inch and 18 inch; the marketing copy says “room for up to a 17 inch notebook”. The figure that actually decides fit is the published laptop compartment: 41.5 x 29.3 x 2.6 cm. Note the 26 mm depth — that is tight for a thick gaming laptop, so measure yours rather than relying on the inch rating. Several distributors title this bag as an 18 inch product; ASUS’s own headline is 17 inch.
Water-repellent is not waterproof. ASUS says water-repellent leatherette, water-repellent polyurethane and water-repellent zippers, and publishes no rating and no test standard. Listings describing this bag as waterproof are overstating what ASUS claims. No rain cover is included.
The 22 litre figure comes from ASUS marketing copy, not from the Tech Specs table. We publish it because ASUS states it, but it is worth knowing it is not a spec-sheet value.
What ASUS does not publish: an RFID-blocking pocket, a waist or hip belt, the fabric denier, laptop-compartment padding thickness, a maximum supported laptop weight, or a cable-routing port. A top carry strap appears in ASUS page copy but not in the Tech Specs table, so we flag it as low confidence rather than stating it plainly.
Do not confuse the BP2701 with the Ranger Gaming Backpack 16. They are different chassis from different generations — and counter-intuitively the 16, internally BP2501, is the newer product, announced in February 2024. Specifications are not interchangeable.
Best For
✓ Carrying a 17 inch gaming laptop together with its peripherals rather than just the machine
✓ LAN events and travel — a full-size keyboard, mouse, mouse pad, headset and charger all have places to go
✓ Anyone who wants a tablet compartment as well as a laptop compartment
✓ Commuters who cycle or walk at night — the reflective surfaces are functional as well as decorative
✓ Travellers using the luggage strap to park the pack on a suitcase handle
Key Features
Thirteen pockets, counted by ASUS
Ten interior pockets and compartments plus three exterior pockets. Specifically: a padded laptop compartment, a tablet compartment, three quick-access pockets sized for a cable, a power bank and a mouse, two zipper pockets, a Lycra pocket, a top pocket, a rear pocket and two side pockets. ASUS states there is room for a full-size keyboard, mouse and mouse pad, headset and charger.
A tablet compartment as well as the laptop
Published separately from the laptop compartment — which is not the case on ASUS’s newer Ranger Gaming Backpack 16, where no tablet compartment is published at all.
Three meshed back pads
ASUS specifies three high-quality meshed back paddings that create channels for air to circulate and mould to your posture. On a pack carrying a 17 inch machine and peripherals, back ventilation is not a luxury.
Reflective cybertext lettering
This is what separates the Cybertext Edition from the standard BP2701. ASUS describes reflective cybertext lettering across the exterior, in addition to the bold slashes and holographic ROG logo that both versions share. The ASUS model suffix, CTE-GRY, confirms it: Cybertext Edition, grey. The reflectivity is styling, and also functional after dark.
Water-repellent throughout
Water-repellent and anti-scratch leatherette and polyurethane, plus water-repellent zippers — ASUS treats the closures as well as the fabric, which is where water usually gets in. Note this is repellency, not a waterproof rating.
Concealed rear pockets and a chest strap
Concealed rear pockets sit against your back for personal items. Padded Lycra shoulder straps with an adjustable chest strap keep the load stable, and a luggage strap secures the pack to a suitcase.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is it a 17 inch or an 18 inch bag?
Both figures come from ASUS. The Tech Specs table lists 17 and 18 inch compatibility; the marketing headline says up to 17 inch. The figure that decides fit is the laptop compartment at 41.5 x 29.3 x 2.6 cm. Measure your machine against that, particularly the 26 mm depth, which is tight for a thick gaming laptop.
Is it waterproof?
No. ASUS claims water-repellent leatherette, polyurethane and zippers, and publishes no rating or test standard. Listings describing it as waterproof are overstating the manufacturer’s claim. No rain cover is included.
How many pockets does it have?
ASUS publishes 10 interior pockets and compartments plus 3 exterior pockets, including a tablet compartment, three quick-access pockets for a cable, power bank and mouse, a Lycra pocket, a top pocket, a rear pocket and two side pockets.
Does it have an RFID pocket?
No. ASUS publishes concealed rear pockets for personal items but makes no RFID-blocking claim anywhere for this bag, so we make none.
How is it different from the ROG Ranger Gaming Backpack 16?
Different chassis, different generation. This is 22 litres at 49 x 31.5 x 15.5 cm for 17 inch machines. The 16 is 18 litres at 44 x 31 x 17 cm for 16 inch machines, weighs more at 1.10 kg, and publishes no tablet compartment. Counter-intuitively the 16 — internally BP2501 — is the newer product, announced in February 2024.
What is the difference between this and the standard BP2701?
Colour and print, plus 50 grams. ASUS publishes this one as grey with reflective cybertext script added to the slash design and holographic logo; the standard 90XB06L0-BBP000 is black with the slash design and logo only. This weighs 0.98 kg against 0.93 kg. We compared the two ASUS specification sheets field by field: dimensions, laptop compartment, capacity, materials, feature tags, compatibility, pocket layout, straps, back padding and box contents are identical. ASUS publishes no functional difference at all.
What warranty applies?
ASUS publishes a 1-year manufacturer warranty for bags in its accessory warranty policy, and notes that the period may differ by region. Distributor listings quoting 2 years are usually stating EU statutory conformity liability, which is the seller’s obligation rather than an ASUS warranty. Our store warranty is one year, alongside your statutory rights.
Singular Expert Insight
Gaming backpacks are often just large backpacks in aggressive colours. The BP2701 earns the label differently: ASUS has counted and published the storage, and the count is the specification. Ten interior pockets and compartments plus three exterior, with three of them sized specifically for a cable, a power bank and a mouse. ASUS states outright that there is room for a full-size keyboard, a mouse and mouse pad, a headset and a charger. If you have ever tried to move a desk setup to a friend’s house or a LAN event in a normal rucksack, that is the difference this bag is selling.
The 22 litres is generous for the footprint, and at 0.98 kg the pack itself is light for its size — ASUS tags it Lightweight in its own feature list. The three meshed back pads matter more than they sound once the bag is loaded with a 17 inch machine and hardware; a flat foam back panel against a full pack in a Cyprus summer is genuinely unpleasant.
Two numbers need care. First, the laptop compartment is 41.5 x 29.3 x 2.6 cm. Twenty-six millimetres is not much depth for a gaming laptop with a real cooling stack, and inch ratings will not tell you whether yours fits. Measure. Second, ASUS publishes both 17 and 18 inch compatibility in the spec table while its own marketing says 17. Several distributors have picked the 18 and run with it. We have published both and told you which is which.
The water story is straightforward and modest: repellent leatherette, repellent PU, repellent zippers, no rating, no rain cover. Treating the zips as well as the fabric is more thorough than most, but this is protection from a shower, not from a downpour, and eBay listings calling it waterproof are simply wrong.
On what Cybertext actually is: ASUS never defines it as a glossary term. Comparing its own copy for the two versions, the only wording that changes is “reflective slash design” becoming “reflective cybertext lettering”, and “holographic ROG logo” becoming “holographic ROG logo and cybertext script”. ASUS’s own model suffix, CTE-GRY, settles it: Cybertext Edition, grey. It is a finish, not a platform. We compared both specification sheets field by field and every functional figure is identical — dimensions, compartment, capacity, materials, pockets, straps, box contents. The only published differences are the colour, the added lettering and 50 grams. Choose on looks.
One warning while comparing: Amazon India lists this Cybertext version at 0.93 kg, which is the black model’s weight. ASUS publishes 0.98 kg for the Cybertext. And ASUS separately describes its newer Ranger Gaming Backpack 16 as having a “bold cyber-text pattern” — that does not make the 16 a Cybertext Edition, and its specifications must not be applied here.
One last thing worth knowing when comparing across the range: the ROG Ranger Gaming Backpack 16 is newer than this one despite the lower internal model number, and it is a different bag — smaller, heavier, no published tablet compartment, reflective straps instead of reflective panels. Do not read the numbering as a generation order.
Buyer’s Guide
Buy it if
Buy the BP2701 if you move a 17 inch gaming laptop and its peripherals rather than just the machine, and you want somewhere specific for each of them. Measure your laptop against the 41.5 x 29.3 x 2.6 cm compartment first — the depth is the constraint. If you would rather have black with the plain slash design, the standard BP2701 is the identical bag in a different finish and 50 g lighter.
Skip it if
Your laptop is thicker than 26 mm at the laptop compartment, or you want a 16 inch bag — ASUS makes the Ranger Gaming Backpack 16 for that, and it is a different, newer chassis. Also skip it if you need a published RFID pocket, a waist belt or a waterproof rating; ASUS claims none of these.
Also consider
The standard ROG Ranger BP2701 Gaming Backpack (90XB06L0-BBP000) is the same bag in black without the cybertext lettering — identical dimensions, capacity, pockets and materials, 50 g lighter. The ROG Ranger Gaming Backpack 16 is a different, newer chassis at 18 litres for 16 inch machines; ASUS describes it as having a cyber-text pattern too, but it is not a Cybertext Edition and its specs do not apply here. Older ROG Ranger models — BP1500, BP1503, BP2500, BP3703 — are separate products. Browse the full range of laptop cases and bags, or see our laptops.
