ASUS ROG Strix X870-F Gaming WiFi — AMD X870 ATX with Two USB4 Ports and Two PCIe 5.0 M.2 Slots

AMD X870 / Socket AM52 x USB4 40 Gbps Type-C4 x M.2, two at PCIe 5.0SupremeFX ALC4080 audio

The ASUS ROG Strix X870-F Gaming WiFi is a full-size ATX motherboard on the AMD X870 chipset for Socket AM5, sitting in ROG’s enthusiast tier with two USB4 ports, four M.2 slots and SupremeFX audio. It carries the part number 90MB1IV0-M0EAY0 (EAN 4711387732045) and supports AMD Ryzen 9000, 8000 and 7000 Series processors, with four DDR5 DIMM slots taking up to 256 GB of ECC or non-ECC unbuffered memory rated to 8000+ MT/s when overclocked. Two of the four M.2 slots run PCIe 5.0 x4 with Ryzen 9000 and 7000 Series chips, networking pairs an Intel 2.5Gb Ethernet controller with a 2x2 Wi-Fi 7 module supporting 320 MHz channels, and the rear panel includes a USB 10Gbps Type-C port with up to 30 W power delivery. Typically in stock with fast delivery across Cyprus.

Compatibility — check before buying:
Storage on this board has two things to watch. Only two SATA 6 Gb/s ports — unusually few for a full ATX board, so if you run several mechanical drives, count them first. And M.2_2 is not usable with Ryzen 8000 Series processors at all: ASUS lists it as PCIe 5.0 x4 on Ryzen 9000 and 7000 Series and "not supported" on Ryzen 8000, because those chips do not expose the lanes. M.2_1 falls back to PCIe 4.0 x4 or x2 on Ryzen 8000; M.2_3 and M.2_4 are PCIe 4.0 x4 from the chipset. Expansion beyond graphics is one PCIe 4.0 x16-length slot running at x4. The graphics slot itself is PCIe 5.0 x16 with Ryzen 9000 and 7000 Series and PCIe 4.0 x8 or x4 with Ryzen 8000. Wi-Fi 7 needs Windows 11 24H2 or later for full functionality, and the module fitted is either a Qualcomm QCNCM865 or a MediaTek MT7927 — check the label. The rear panel has two audio jacks plus optical S/PDIF rather than the usual three or five. Socket AM5 means DDR5 only. Full ATX at 30.5 x 24.4 cm.
Best For
✓ Enthusiast Ryzen 9000 gaming builds on X870
✓ Creators running two PCIe 5.0 NVMe drives at once
✓ Desks using a USB4 dock or single-cable monitor
✓ Users who drive headphones straight from the board
✓ Builds charging a phone or handheld from the 30 W USB-C port
✓ Systems that rely on NVMe rather than SATA storage
Key Features

Two USB4 ports with DisplayPort Alt Mode
Both rear USB4 Type-C ports run at 40 Gbps and carry DisplayPort output, so one cable can drive a monitor while the other handles a dock or a fast external NVMe enclosure. A separate rear USB 10Gbps Type-C port supplies up to 30 W of fast charging.

Four M.2 slots, two of them PCIe 5.0
M.2_1 and M.2_2 both run PCIe 5.0 x4 from the CPU with Ryzen 9000 and 7000 Series processors, with M.2_2 accepting drives up to 22110 in length, and M.2_3 and M.2_4 add PCIe 4.0 x4 slots from the X870 chipset. AMD RAIDXpert2 supports PCIe RAID 0, 1, 5 and 10.

ROG SupremeFX ALC4080 audio
The onboard codec is the ALC4080 in ROG’s SupremeFX implementation, with impedance sensing on front and rear headphone outputs, 120 dB SNR stereo playback, 110 dB SNR recording and support up to 32-bit / 384 kHz. If you use wired headphones from the rear panel, this is a substantial step up from a mainstream codec.

Wi-Fi 7 on 320 MHz plus Intel 2.5Gb Ethernet
A 2x2 802.11be module covers 2.4, 5 and 6 GHz with 320 MHz channel width and Bluetooth 5.4, alongside an Intel 2.5Gb Ethernet controller with ASUS LANGuard protection. Rear BIOS FlashBack and Clear CMOS buttons make firmware recovery and CPU upgrades simple.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why does ASUS list M.2_2 as unsupported on Ryzen 8000 processors?
Because Ryzen 8000 Series chips expose fewer PCIe lanes from the CPU than Ryzen 9000 and 7000 Series do. On this board that means M.2_2 — a PCIe 5.0 x4 slot fed directly by the processor — has no lanes available with an 8000 Series chip and cannot be used. M.2_1 also steps down to PCIe 4.0. If you plan to fit a Ryzen 8000 part, budget on three usable M.2 slots rather than four.
Is two SATA ports enough?
It depends entirely on your drives. Two SATA 6 Gb/s ports is few for a full ATX board, and it reflects the modern assumption that storage is NVMe. With four M.2 slots that is a reasonable bet, but if you have three or four mechanical hard disks to carry over, check the count before you buy or plan on a SATA controller in the PCIe 4.0 x4 slot.
What do the two USB4 ports give me over normal USB-C?
40 Gbps of bandwidth and DisplayPort Alt Mode on each, so they handle single-cable monitors, docks and fast external NVMe enclosures, and most Thunderbolt 3 and USB4 devices work on them. There is also a separate USB 10Gbps Type-C port on the rear that supplies up to 30 W, which is enough to fast-charge a phone or a handheld console.
What do I need to know before buying this board?
Full ATX at 30.5 x 24.4 cm, DDR5 memory only, and it supports ECC unbuffered modules if your CPU does. Only two SATA ports. M.2_2 is unavailable with Ryzen 8000 Series CPUs. Beyond graphics there is one PCIe 4.0 x4 slot. Wi-Fi 7 needs Windows 11 24H2 or later for full functionality.
Singular Expert Insight
The X870-F is the sensible middle of ROG’s X870 range: you get the two USB4 ports and the extra chipset lanes that justify X870, plus SupremeFX ALC4080 audio and an Intel network controller, without paying for the flagship boards’ heatsinks and OLED panels. Two details deserve a decision rather than a glance. Two SATA ports is genuinely restrictive if you keep mechanical drives, and M.2_2 simply does not work with a Ryzen 8000 Series processor — both are easy to design around if you know, and irritating if you find out afterwards. For a Ryzen 9 build with NVMe storage and a card from our graphics cards range, neither matters. Buy a matched two-module DDR5 memory kit and leave two slots free; four populated DDR5 slots always clock lower than two.
Buyer's Guide

Buy it if

You want an enthusiast X870 board with two USB4 ports, four M.2 slots (two at PCIe 5.0), Wi-Fi 7 on 320 MHz channels, Intel 2.5Gb Ethernet and genuinely good onboard headphone audio.

Skip it if

You need more than two SATA ports, you are fitting a Ryzen 8000 Series processor and want all four M.2 slots, or you need several full-bandwidth expansion slots.
