Avision IDA6: a compact A6 scanner for ID cards, licences and small documents
A6 scan area600 dpi3 s per scan0.8 kg
The Avision IDA6 is a compact A6 flatbed scanner with a 105 x 148 mm scan area and 600 dpi optical resolution, made for reception desks, hotels, car rental counters, banks and clinics that scan ID cards, driving licences, insurance cards and small receipts. Each scan takes about 3 seconds, or 5 seconds including the carriage return, and the card stays still on the glass, so there is no risk of jamming or scratching it in a feeder. At 253 x 160 mm and 0.8 kg it fits next to a keyboard or a card terminal. It connects to the PC by USB 2.0 and uses a TWAIN driver plus Button Manager and AVScan for scanning to image or PDF files. The IDA6 makes sense when a counter scans the same small items all day. Check-in desks scan identity cards and driving licences, clinics scan insurance cards, rental desks scan licences and receipts. Keeping originals on glass rather than feeding them protects cards with raised print or holograms. Most counter software that accepts TWAIN scanners can capture the image directly, or staff can save to a folder with one button. If you are unsure whether your software accepts it, send us its name and version.
Before you order: A6 only: the glass is 105 x 148 mm, so A5 and A4 pages, and an open passport spread, do not fit. For those, choose the FB15 (A5) or FB25 (A4).

What It Means in Practice
- ID cards, licences and health cards scan without bending, and both sides can be captured one after the other.
- 600 dpi optical resolution keeps small print, holograms outlines and photos legible.
- About 3 seconds per scan keeps a check-in queue moving.
- The small footprint fits where an A4 scanner would not.
- Button Manager can send each scan straight to a fixed folder or as PDF.
What Will Not Work
- Larger than A6 will not fit, including A5 forms and open passports.
- No feeder; it scans one item at a time.
- No network or Wi-Fi.
- It does not read data from cards; it only captures an image.
- It does not scan both sides of a card in one pass; turn the card over for the back.
Key Features
A6 glass
105 x 148 mm, sized for ID cards, licences, insurance cards and small receipts, with short carriage travel for 3-second scans. It keeps cards flat and still, so there is no risk of jamming.
600 dpi optical
Enough detail for small print and card photos to stay readable when zoomed. Scans stay readable when attached to a booking or customer file.
Compact body
253 x 160 x 55 mm and 0.8 kg, so it fits next to a keyboard or card terminal. There is room for a card terminal or printer beside it.
Low power
Under 5 W while scanning and under 0.3 W off, so it can stay on all day.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can it scan both sides of an ID card at once?
No. It is a flatbed, so you scan the front, turn the card over and scan the back. Software can combine front and back into one PDF if you scan both in the same job.
Will a passport fit?
A single passport page is larger than A6 when opened, so the IDA6 is not the right tool. Choose the FB15 or FB25. If passports appear even occasionally, an A5 or A4 flatbed avoids a second purchase later.
Does it extract the card data automatically?
It captures an image. Data extraction needs separate software; tell us your system and we advise. Ask us before ordering if your process depends on data extraction.
Does it work with a hotel or rental system?
If the system accepts TWAIN scanners or reads files from a folder, it normally works. Tell us the system name. We can also confirm the driver version your vendor expects. Many hotel and rental systems accept a file from a folder, which works with any scanner. Once set up, staff press one button per scan.
Singular Expert Insight · Buyer's Guide
The IDA6 is a specialised tool, and its value is speed and space at a counter where only cards and small slips are scanned. Many counters eventually need passports too, so check your document mix first; if passports appear even occasionally, the A5 FB15 is the safer choice.
