AXIS T8129 PoE Extender

PoE pass-through10/100 MbpsNo PSU neededCascadable

The AXIS T8129 PoE Extender (part number 5025-281) sits in a network cable run and extends both data and Power over Ethernet beyond the normal 100 m limit, so a camera can be installed further from the switch. It takes IEEE 802.3af/at power in and passes it through, is compatible with High PoE up to 60 W, and needs no separate power supply of its own. Data runs at 10/100 Mbps. AXIS states the total reach depends on the load of the device: up to 400 m below 6 W, 300 m below 12 W and 200 m above 12 W. Extenders can be cascaded every 100 m.

Compatibility — check before buying:
Fast Ethernet only (10/100 Mbps) — not for Gigabit links. AXIS specifies shielded cable, Cat5 or better, and the unit is for indoor use. Every extender and the camera draw from the same PoE budget, so check the camera’s power: above 12 W the total reach falls to 200 m. AXIS also lists 5025-289, the version for the Chinese market; this item (5025-281) is the one for our region. Not sure? Tell us your model and we check it for you.

Singular Expert Insight
For a fixed camera at the far end of a building, one extender is far cheaper than a new switch and a power point. Use shielded cable and work out the camera wattage first. For PoE sources, see our PoE switches.
