AXIS 30 W Outdoor Midspan — weatherproof PoE+ at the pole
IEEE 802.3at · 30 WIP66/IP67 · NEMA 4XGigabit-40 °C to 65 °C
The AXIS 30 W Outdoor Midspan (part number 01944-001) is a single-port PoE+ injector in a sealed aluminium housing that adds up to 30 W of IEEE 802.3at power to a Gigabit Ethernet link right where the camera or radio is mounted outdoors. It is built for installers who have mains power on a pole, façade or perimeter fence but only a data cable — or a non-PoE switch — coming from the building.
Data enters on one shielded RJ45 port and leaves with power on the other at 54 VDC. Both RJ45 ports and the 3-pin AC connector are themselves IP-rated, so you connect everything without opening the enclosure. The unit auto-detects 802.3af (Class 3) and 802.3at (Class 4) devices, carries 6 kV surge protection on both the AC and PoE side, and runs from -40 °C to 65 °C in condensing humidity.
Before you order: This midspan powers devices up to 30 W only. PTZ cameras with heaters, IR illuminators or radar units that need 60 W or 90 W (IEEE 802.3bt) will not start or will reboot under load — check the PD power class first.
What's in the Box
- AXIS 30 W Outdoor Midspan (01944-001)
- Installation guide
- An AC mains cable is not listed in the package contents — plan the mains connection to the IP68 AC connector with your electrician
- Pole mount AXIS TD9301 is sold separately
What It Means in Practice
- Put the PoE source next to the camera: the 100 m Ethernet limit then counts from the switch to the midspan, and the short patch from midspan to camera stays outdoors.
- Use it when the indoor switch has no PoE, or when its PoE budget is already used up.
- Because the housing is IP66/IP67 and NEMA 4X, it can sit unprotected on a pole in rain, dust and sea air — no extra cabinet is needed.
- At 2 W idle and 36 W maximum draw, it adds little load to an outdoor mains circuit.
What Will Not Work
- It does not power IEEE 802.3bt (60 W / 90 W) devices.
- It is not a switch: one data input, one data+power output, no VLANs or management.
- It does not convert PoE to 12 V or 24 V — a camera without PoE needs a splitter.
- It needs a mains AC supply on site; it cannot be fed from another PoE port.
Key Features
Sealed connectors
IP-rated shielded RJ45 ports and an IP68 AC connector: no need to open the unit during installation.
6 kV surge protection
On both the AC and PoE ports (GR-1089-CORE, ITU-T K.21 enhanced) for exposed pole installations.
Wide temperature range
Operates from -40 °C to 65 °C at 10–100% relative humidity, condensing.
Auto-detection
Recognises 802.3af Class 3 and 802.3at Class 4 devices and only powers compliant PDs.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I install it without a cabinet?
Yes. The housing is IP66/IP67 and NEMA 4X, and the connectors are sealed, so it is designed to be mounted directly on a wall or pole outdoors.
How far can the camera be from the midspan?
The Ethernet cable from the midspan to the camera follows the normal 100 m limit for twisted-pair Ethernet. Most installers keep the midspan on the same pole as the camera.
Does it work with non-Axis cameras?
Yes. It follows IEEE 802.3af/at, so any compliant device up to 30 W is powered, regardless of brand.
Singular Expert Insight · Buyer's Guide
An outdoor midspan solves the classic perimeter problem: power on the pole, data in the building. Before you order, check two things — the camera power class (30 W maximum here) and how the mains reaches the IP68 AC connector. For the camera itself, see our
IP cameras.
✓ Buy it if you need 802.3at PoE outdoors, at the pole, without building a weatherproof cabinet.
✕ Skip it if your device needs 60 W or 90 W (802.3bt), or the injector will sit indoors next to the switch — an indoor injector costs less.
→ Also consider an indoor Gigabit PoE+ injector when the power source can stay inside the building.
