BakkerElkhuizen S-board 840 — Compact Ergonomic Keyboard, US International, Light Grey
305 mm wideScissor keys520 gPlug-and-play USB
The BakkerElkhuizen S-board 840 (BNES840DUS) is the small keyboard that ergonomics advisers reach for when the complaint is the shoulder rather than the wrist. At just 305 mm wide it removes the wide numeric pad that forces your mousing hand out to the side, so the mouse comes back in front of your shoulder and the sustained reach that causes neck and shoulder load simply stops. The keys use a scissor mechanism with a short, light stroke, so less force goes into every keystroke and the keyboard stays quiet in a shared room. The whole body is 305 × 165 × 20 mm and 520 g in a light grey finish, and it plugs straight into a USB port with the supplied adapter. In the box: keyboard, USB adapter and documentation.
Compatibility — check before buying:
Layout: US International QWERTY is the layout most people in Cyprus type on: wide Enter key, @ above 2. If your current keyboard is UK layout, the Enter key changes shape and a few symbols move, but letters and numbers are identical. There is no numeric keypad — that is the entire point of the design, and it is the one thing to check before ordering. If you do accounting or heavy data entry all day, either keep a separate numeric pad on the left of the keyboard (we stock them) or choose a full-size model instead. It is wired over USB with the supplied adapter; there is no Bluetooth version of this part number. There is no backlight and no palm rest included — at 20 mm high a separate slim rest is optional rather than necessary. The keyboard follows standard USB HID, so it types on Windows, macOS and Linux, with the modifier keys labelled for Windows.
Best For
✓ Shoulder and neck complaints caused by reaching for the mouse
✓ Small desks, reception counters and shared workstations
✓ Laptop users who dock and want a keyboard that matches the laptop footprint
✓ Ergonomics programmes where the assessor has specified a compact board
✓ Anyone who never uses the numeric pad but keeps paying for the width
✓ Quiet offices where a light, short keystroke is preferred
Key Features
305 mm and that is the point
Removing the numeric pad narrows the keyboard by roughly a hand span — and that hand span is exactly how far your mousing shoulder has been reaching all day.
Scissor keys, light and quiet
A short stroke with low actuation force means less work per keystroke and a landing soft enough for an open-plan office.
Flat and stable
20 mm high and 520 g: low enough to keep your wrists neutral, heavy enough not to slide when you type quickly.
Nothing to configure
Plug it in with the supplied USB adapter and type — no drivers, no software, no pairing.

Singular Expert Insight
If a colleague is complaining about the right shoulder and you are about to buy them a new chair, try this keyboard first — it is the cheaper and usually more effective change. Add a separate left-hand numeric pad if the job needs one. Browse our keyboards and our wireless mice for the matching mouse.
