The Bixolon SLP-DX220 (SLP-DX220BG/BEG) is a 2-inch desktop label printer that prints directly on heat-sensitive media, with no ribbon at 203 dpi and up to 152 mm/s, built for shelf and product labels, pharmacy and specimen labels, tags and receipts.
This configuration connects via USB, RS-232 serial and Bluetooth 5.0. It takes labels, tags and receipt paper from 15 to 60 mm wide (54 mm print width) and speaks SLCS plus the BPL-Z (ZPL II) and BPL-E (EPL) emulations.
Before you order: Direct thermal only — there is no ribbon. You need direct-thermal labels, and the print fades with heat, sunlight and abrasion. For labels that must last for years or outdoors, choose a thermal-transfer model instead.

What It Means in Practice
- 203 dpi is the standard resolution for shipping, warehouse and retail labels and 1D/2D barcodes, and it is the faster resolution in this series (up to 152 mm/s).
- Media from 15–60 mm wide on rolls up to 130 mm outside diameter (core 12.5–38.1 mm): gap, black-mark, notch, continuous and fan-fold stock — narrow labels for products, shelves, specimens and receipts, not 4-inch shipping labels.
- Connections on this configuration: USB, RS-232 serial and Bluetooth 5.0. Wireless lets tablets, phones or mobile carts print without a cable to a host PC.
- The BPL-Z (ZPL II) and BPL-E (EPL) emulations accept the label formats most ERP, WMS and courier systems already send to Zebra-language printers; Bixolon also supplies Windows drivers, Label Artist II and BarTender support.
What Will Not Work
- Ribbons — this printer has no ribbon mechanism.
- Media wider than 60 mm (maximum print width 54 mm).
- Peel-and-present or cutting — the peeler and auto cutter are separate options, not included.
- Wi-Fi networks — this configuration uses Bluetooth, not Wi-Fi.
- 4-inch (100 mm) shipping labels — choose a 4-inch model such as the Bixolon XD5-40 series.
