The Brother ADS-4100 is a compact desktop document scanner that scans both sides of A4 at 35 pages per minute (70 images per minute) from a 60-sheet automatic document feeder. It connects to one computer over SuperSpeed USB 3.0 and is aimed at personal desks, small offices and reception counters that digitise invoices, contracts and forms every day.

A rear USB host port lets you scan straight to a USB flash drive without a PC. The same feeder handles paper from 40 to 200 gsm, long documents up to 5 m, business cards and plastic ID cards up to 1.32 mm thick.

Bundled software includes Brother iPrint&Scan, Kofax Power PDF Standard v3 and Tungsten PaperPort for searchable PDFs, and TWAIN, WIA and SANE drivers let document-management software control it directly.

Before you order: The ADS-4100 is USB only: it has no Ethernet and no Wi-Fi, so it cannot be shared on a network. Brother does not list an ultrasonic double-feed sensor for this model (the network ADS-4300N has one).

What It Means in Practice

  • Plug into one PC via USB 3.0 and scan with one key to PDF, JPEG or TIFF.
  • Scan to a USB stick from the rear host port when no PC is available.
  • Duplex at full speed: a 60-page double-sided batch becomes 120 images in under two minutes.
  • Low running power: about 23 W while scanning and around 1.4 W in sleep, per Brother.
  • Kensington lock slot for counters and shared areas.

What Will Not Work

  • No network or Wi-Fi — other PCs cannot scan to it; choose the ADS-4300N for sharing.
  • No ultrasonic double-feed detection listed.
  • No flatbed and no A3 — maximum width 215.9 mm (A3 carrier sheet available as an option).
  • No display; settings are made in the PC software.
