Brother M-K231BZ Non-Laminated M Tape — Black on White, 12 mm x 8 m
Genuine Brother M tape12 mm x 8 mBlack on WhiteNon-laminated
The Brother M-K231BZ is a genuine non-laminated M-series label tape cassette that prints black text on white tape, 12 mm wide and 8 m long. It is made for owners of Brother P-touch printers that use M tape — such as the PT-M95 — who need clear, high-contrast labels for files, boxes, shelves and household or office items.
M tape is a separate cassette system from Brother's more common TZe tapes. The two look similar in a photo but are not interchangeable, so the most important step before ordering is to confirm which system your printer uses.
Before you order: M tape only fits P-touch printers that show the M tape logo on the cassette cover (for example the PT-M95, which takes 9 mm and 12 mm M tape). It does NOT fit TZe printers such as the PT-H110, PT-D210 or PT-P300BT — if your printer shows a TZ/TZe logo, order a TZe tape like TZe-231 instead.
What's in the Box
- 1 x Brother M-K231BZ M tape cassette, 12 mm wide, 8 m long
- Non-laminated white tape with black print
- Adhesive tape on a peel-off backing
What It Means in Practice
- Black on white is the highest-contrast combination and reads well on any surface colour.
- 12 mm gives room for one bold line or two lines of smaller text.
- Non-laminated print is for indoor use: folders, storage boxes, shelves, kitchen jars, school items.
- Labels exposed to water, cleaning chemicals or frequent rubbing will wear faster than laminated TZe labels.
What Will Not Work
- TZe P-touch printers (TZ/TZe logo) — different cassette shape; use TZe-231 instead.
- Brother Btag (PT-N10/N20/N25BT) or QL printers.
- DYMO, Epson, Casio and other brands of label printer.
- Outdoor, wet or chemical-exposure labelling — non-laminated M tape is not designed for that.

Frequently Asked Questions
Singular Expert Insight · Buyer's Guide
The M-K231BZ is the standard refill for M-series P-touch printers, and black on white is the safest choice for readable labels anywhere. The one mistake to avoid is ordering it for a TZe printer — the cassette will not fit. See our labels and label tapes range for TZe tapes and other options.
✓ Buy it if your P-touch shows the M tape logo (e.g. PT-M95) and you want everyday black-on-white labels.
✕ Skip it if your printer shows a TZ/TZe logo, or your labels need to survive water, chemicals or outdoor exposure.
→ Also consider TZe-231 (12 mm black on white, laminated) if you have — or plan to buy — a TZe P-touch printer.
Not sure which tape your printer takes? Send us the exact model of your label printer and we will confirm the right cassette or roll before you order.
