Canon imageFORMULA DR-M140II: compact 80-sheet scanner for busy desks
40ppm / 80ipm duplex80-sheet ADFStraight-through for cardUp to 8,500 scans/day
The Canon imageFORMULA DR-M140II is an A4 duplex document scanner with an 80-sheet feeder that scans both sides at 40 pages (80 images) per minute, made for accounts, admin and front-desk teams that scan in batches every day. It is only 93 mm tall with the tray closed, so it fits under a shelf or counter. Two paper paths cover different jobs: the U-turn path returns pages to the front for everyday sheets, while the straight-through path handles thick card up to 255 g/m2, business cards and documents up to 5,588 mm long. Canon's Active Thresholding cleans up coloured and patterned backgrounds and light handwriting, and CaptureOnTouch Pro is bundled for batch scanning. The scanner is aimed at everyday business documents, from thin receipts at 27 g/m2 to card on the straight-through path, and it has ultrasonic double-feed detection to catch two sheets travelling together. Canon states that more than 20% of the scanner is made from recycled materials and that it uses environmentally friendly packaging. Power draw is 24.5W at most while scanning, 1.6W in sleep and 0.1W or less when off, so it can be left on at a front desk all day. Who is it for? Accounting offices processing supplier invoices and receipts, HR teams scanning employee files, front desks copying ID cards, and any desk that scans a few hundred to a few thousand pages a day. Because the scanner sits on one computer, it fits best where one person or one workstation owns the scanning job, such as a finance clerk or a receptionist, and the scans are then saved to shared folders or a document-management system from that PC.
Before you order: The DR-M140II connects to a computer by USB 2.0 only and is driven by Canon's ISIS/TWAIN driver and CaptureOnTouch Pro; there is no network port, so each user scans from the PC it is plugged into.

What It Means in Practice
- An 80-sheet stack of A4 invoices goes through in about two minutes in duplex, which suits end-of-day batching.
- The 6,000-8,500 scans per day rating covers a busy department desk, not just occasional use.
- Use the straight-through path for card stock, ID cards and long receipts; it avoids bending stiff originals.
- Ultrasonic double-feed detection and robust separation reduce re-scans when you feed mixed paper weights.
- The low profile and front output make it practical on a reception counter where space is tight.
What Will Not Work
- No network or Wi-Fi: it is a USB scanner for one computer at a time.
- No flatbed glass for books or stapled packs; add the optional Flatbed Scanner Unit 102 for those.
- No A3: maximum width is 216 mm.
- Not a photo scanner for batches of prints; the RS40 is designed for that.
- No touchscreen or job panel: jobs are started from the PC software or a scan button set up in CaptureOnTouch.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can it scan plastic ID cards?
Yes, through the straight-through path, which Canon specifies for thick media up to 255 g/m2 as well as cards.
Can I add a flatbed later?
Yes. Canon lists the A4 Flatbed Scanner Unit 102 as an option, and both devices scan into the same software and file.
What is the difference from the original DR-M140?
The DR-M140II is the current generation with Canon's latest driver and image processing; check the part number so you do not receive the older model.
Does it work with my document-management software?
Canon supplies ISIS and TWAIN drivers, the standards most Windows capture and DMS applications use. Tell us the software name and we check it before you order.
Singular Expert Insight · Buyer's Guide
The DR-M140II is the sensible default for a single busy desk that scans mixed paperwork over USB. If several people need to share one scanner over the network, the DR-S250N or DR-S350NW saves you buying one per desk. Use the straight-through path for anything you would not want bent, and the U-turn path for everything else to save desk depth. Feed rollers wear with use. Canon sells an Exchange Roller Kit for this model; replacing it when misfeeds start to appear restores reliable feeding, and we can supply it. If you scan mostly thin receipts, keep them in the U-turn path with the guides set close to the receipt width to avoid skew.
✓ Buy it if Buy it if one person or desk scans 80-sheet batches of mixed paper every day and space is tight.
✕ Skip it if Skip it if the scanner must be shared on the network; choose the DR-S250N instead.
