EFB Cat8.1 S/FTP Patch Cable 0.25 m — 2000 MHz, up to 40 Gbit/s, Blue
Cat8.1 · 2000 MHzup to 40 Gbit/sS/FTP · RJ45LSZH · Blue
The EFB Cat8.1 S/FTP patch cable (0.25 m, blue) is a fully shielded RJ45 network cable rated for 2000 MHz and data rates up to 40 Gbit/s, with an LSZH jacket — a short, high-margin jumper for data-centre racks where switches, servers and storage sit next to each other.
Cat8.1 keeps the familiar RJ45 plug, so it fits every RJ45 port and is fully backwards compatible with Cat6A, Cat6 and Cat5e equipment. The shielded plugs have 50 µin gold-plated contacts, a locking-lever protector and a moulded anti-kink sleeve; the pairs are individually foiled inside an overall braid (S/FTP, PIMF) and wired 1:1 to TIA/EIA-568B.
Before you order: 25GBASE-T and 40GBASE-T work only if both devices have 25G/40G copper ports — such equipment is rare. With normal 10G or 1G switches and NICs, this cable runs at that speed, the same as a Cat6A cable.
What's in the Box
- 1 × EFB Cat8.1 S/FTP LSZH patch cable, 0.25 m, blue, with shielded RJ45 plugs at both ends
- Nothing else — no couplers, labels or tools
What It Means in Practice
- At 0.25 m it is a rack jumper: switch to switch, switch to server or patch panel to switch in the same or the neighbouring rack
- Cat8 links are limited to 30 m in total, which is why Cat8 cables are short data-centre jumpers rather than building cabling
- Runs 10GBASE-T, 2.5G/5G, 1 Gbit/s and 100 Mbit/s too — the speed is set by the ports, not the cable
- PoE to IEEE 802.3af, 802.3at and 4-pair 802.3bt per EFB — power comes from the switch or injector
- LSZH jacket: low smoke and no halogen acid gases in a fire
What Will Not Work
- No speed gain on 1G or 10G equipment compared with a good Cat6A cable
- 25G/40GBASE-T needs matching copper ports at both ends — SFP+/SFP28 or QSFP cages do not take RJ45 cables without suitable transceivers
- Not a building or office cable — Cat8 is specified for runs up to 30 m only
- Not for outdoor use or punching down onto keystones or patch panels
Key Features
2000 MHz Cat8.1
Bandwidth headroom for 25G/40GBASE-T and a large margin for 10 Gigabit.
Shielded S/FTP
Foil around each pair plus overall braid for low crosstalk in dense rack bundles.
RJ45 compatible
Cat8.1 uses standard RJ45 plugs, so it fits any RJ45 port and works with older categories.
LSZH, blue
Halogen-free, low-smoke jacket; blue for easy identification in the rack.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will this make my 10G network faster?
No. Speed is set by the switch and network card. On 1G or 10G ports a Cat8.1 cable performs like a Cat6A cable; it only adds headroom.
Is Cat8.1 the same as Cat8.2?
No. Cat8.1 uses RJ45 plugs and fits standard ports. Cat8.2 is a different class that uses GG45/TERA-type connectors.
Can I use it for PoE?
Yes. EFB specifies 802.3af, 802.3at and 4-pair 802.3bt.
Singular Expert Insight · Buyer's Guide
Cat8.1 patch cords make sense where 25G/40GBASE-T copper ports exist or where you want maximum shielding margin in a dense rack. For ordinary 10 Gigabit patching, a Cat6A S/FTP cable does the same job and is easier to route. More lengths are in our
network cables range.
✓ Buy it if you connect 25G/40GBASE-T copper ports, or want the highest-rated short jumpers in a data-centre rack.
✕ Skip it if your equipment is 1G or 10G and you only need standard patching — Cat6A is enough and cheaper.
→ Also consider EFB Cat6A S/FTP LSZH patch cables for 10 Gigabit, or fibre/DAC links for 25G and faster.
