The CHERRY SECURE BOARD 1.0 (JK-A0400EU-2) is a full-size keyboard with two card readers built in: a contact PC/SC smart card reader that is CCID compatible and supports the T=0, T=1 and T=CL protocols, and a contactless reader behind the keypad for cards and tags with an RF/NFC interface to ISO 14443 A/B. The contact slot has a flat, low contacting unit designed for one-handed insertion. What makes it a security keyboard is not the reader alone: in secure mode the keyboard authenticates itself to the host with a certificate and encrypts what you type with ChaCha20, which renders hardware key loggers useless, and because the standard keyboard channel is locked, BadUSB attacks cannot be carried out through it. Compatibility — check before buying:
The keyboard connects over USB-A and CHERRY lists Windows, macOS and Linux. Secure mode — certificate-based authentication and encrypted key transmission — needs the matching host software and configuration; without it the keyboard still types and the readers still work, but the anti-key-logger protection is not active, so plan the roll-out with whoever runs your card infrastructure. CHERRY publishes support for ISO 7816 (contact) and ISO 14443 A/B (contactless); other card standards such as ISO 15693 are not listed — check your card type before ordering. CHERRY notes that the DIN/GS-compliant layout and BGI-650 ergonomics statement apply to the German version; this part number is the US International layout. Keys are not backlit. CHERRY does not publish the key switch type for this model.
