The Chillax DM685 Giraffe Clip is a video baby monitor with a 5-inch parent unit and a camera on a flexible giraffe neck with a multipurpose clip base, so you can fix it to the cot rail, a shelf or a pushchair frame instead of drilling a wall mount — for parents who want a clear view straight down into the cot and the option to watch on their phone.
The parent unit connects directly to the camera over its own link and shows the picture in 720p on the 5-inch screen; in the ChillaxCare app the same camera streams in 1080p Full HD. Chillax rates the link at up to about 360 m (1,200 ft) in open field, and the infrared night vision is tuned for low grain and a brighter picture in a dark nursery.
Wi-Fi is optional and has its own switch on the camera: leave it on for remote viewing, sharing and sound and motion alerts in the app, or turn it off and use the monitor as a closed local system. An auto-dimming LED keeps the camera from lighting up the room at night.
Before you order: Add-on cameras must be the Chillax DM685BU. The DM685 is not compatible with the older DM680 cameras or parent units, and the parent unit shows one camera at a time (scan view, no split screen).

- Two ways to watch: 720p on the parent unit for the bedside, 1080p in the app when you want more detail or are away from home.
- Growing family: add up to three DM685BU cameras (four in total) and the parent unit scans between them.
- Privacy: with the Wi-Fi switch off, nothing goes to the internet and the parent unit keeps working.
- Range: about 360 m is an open-field figure; walls and floors reduce it, so test the link from the rooms you use most.
What Will Not Work
- No split-screen: with several cameras the parent unit cycles between them rather than showing them side by side.
- Not compatible with DM680 cameras or parent units.
- The camera has no battery and needs a power source. For a camera that runs on its own battery, choose the DM688 Giraffe Clip Portable.
- Parent unit battery runtime is not published by Chillax; keep it on charge overnight.
