The Cisco QSFP-100G-SM-SR= is a 100 Gbit QSFP28 transceiver of the CWDM4 Lite type, carrying four wavelengths between 1271 and 1331 nm over a duplex LC single-mode pair, up to 2 km. It is a cost-optimised optic for climate-controlled data centres, rated for +10 to +60 °C, and Cisco states it interoperates with the full-spec QSFP-100G-CWDM4-S. Despite the feed’s “QSFP+” label, it is a QSFP28 100G module. In practice, single-mode optics are the choice when a link leaves the building or runs several hundred metres: the OS2 fibre used by carriers and campus backbones carries the signal for kilometres with little loss. Before you order, confirm the fibre is single-mode at both ends and note the length and the number of patch panels on the way.
Compatibility — check before buying:
It is a data-centre part: the operating range is +10 to +60 °C, narrower than the usual 0–70 °C. It links to SM-SR or CWDM4-S modules only — it will not link to single-wavelength DR, FR or LR1 modules, even though the FR also reaches 2 km and also has a green pull tab. The 4.2 dB link budget leaves little margin for extra patch panels. Keep the dust cap on until you connect the fibre, and clean both connector ends before every mating — dirt is the most common cause of a link that will not come up. Not sure?
