Cisco 10GBASE-CU SFP+ Passive Twinax Cable, 1.5 m
10GBASE-CU · 10 GbpsSFP+ to SFP+1.5 mPassive, 0.1 W max
The Cisco SFP-H10GB-CU1-5M= is a 1.5 m passive twinax direct attach copper cable with SFP+ connectors fixed to both ends, made for 10 Gigabit Ethernet links between Cisco switches, routers and servers in the same rack or across to the next one.
A DAC replaces two optical transceivers and a fibre patch cord with a single factory-terminated assembly: lower cost, negligible power draw and no fibre end-faces to clean. The trade-off is reach and flexibility — the length is fixed, and copper twinax is meant for links inside one rack or to the rack next to it.
Before you order: Cisco qualifies optics per platform and software release. Confirm your switch in the Cisco Transceiver Compatibility Matrix — or send us the model and we will check it.
What's in the Box
- 1 × Cisco SFP-H10GB-CU1-5M= passive twinax cable, 1.5 m, with SFP+ connectors attached at both ends
- No separate transceivers are needed — the SFP+ connectors are part of the cable
What It Means in Practice
- 1.5 m suits a top-of-rack switch to servers in the upper part of the rack, or switch-to-switch links within one rack.
- Passive copper draws at most 0.1 W, so it adds practically nothing to the port power budget.
- Hot-swappable: plug it in or pull it out while both devices are running; the port recognises the cable and brings the link up without separate optics.
- Measure the real cable route (through cable managers, around the rack posts) before choosing the length — a DAC cannot be shortened, and a long cable coiled inside the rack blocks airflow.
What Will Not Work
- It will not link in 1G-only SFP ports: both ends must be SFP+ (10G) ports.
- Non-Cisco switches or NICs that enforce their own coding may reject it — it is meant for the Cisco platforms in the compatibility matrix.
- It cannot be extended or joined to another cable — if the distance grows, the answer is optics plus fibre, not a second DAC.
- It is not a breakout cable: it connects one port to one port of the same type.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is 1.5 m the right length?
Measure the route through your cable managers first. Cisco makes the same passive cable in 1, 2, 3 and 5 m, and a cable that is too short cannot be stretched — one that is far too long ends up coiled in the rack.
Will it work with a server's SFP+ network card?
Electrically yes — it is a standard 10GBASE-CU cable. Some NIC vendors accept only their own coded cables, so tell us the card model and we will check before you order.
DAC or transceivers with fibre — which should I use?
Inside one rack or between adjacent racks, a DAC is cheaper, draws less power and has fewer parts that can fail. For longer distances, links between rooms or routes that may change later, choose two transceivers and a fibre patch cord instead.
Singular Expert Insight · Buyer's Guide
Passive DAC is the cheapest and most reliable way to run 10G inside a rack, as long as both ends accept Cisco-coded cables. For the other end of the link, see our
network switches with SFP+ ports.
✓ Buy it if you are connecting two Cisco SFP+ ports that are at most about 1.5 m apart by cable route.
✕ Skip it if one end is a non-Cisco device that enforces its own coding, or the run is longer than 1.5 m.
→ Also consider Cisco SFP-10G-SR transceivers with OM3/OM4 fibre for longer runs, or the 2, 3 or 5 m Cisco passive DAC.
