The Cisco SFP-25G-AOC1M= is a 25GBASE-AOC SFP28 active optical cable, 1 metre long, with an SFP28 module permanently attached at each end. Cisco designs it for very short 25 Gigabit links inside a rack or between adjacent racks — switch to server, switch to switch or fabric interconnect to server adapter.
Because the optics are built into the cable there are no separate transceivers, patch cords or connector cleaning. The assembly is certified and tested by Cisco on Cisco SFP28 ports and complies with IEEE 802.3by and 802.3cc.
Before you order: Cisco states that its AOC cables require BASE-R FEC or RS-FEC enabled on the host ports. Cisco does not publish 10G operation for this cable — treat it as 25G only and check your platform in the Cisco compatibility matrix, or send us the model.

What It Means in Practice
- Plug-and-play 25G link: no transceivers to buy separately and no fibre end faces to clean.
- Cisco lists it for the UCS VIC 1400/14000 series adapters and UCS 6454 / 64108 Fabric Interconnects; Nexus and Catalyst 25G ports are covered by the Cisco compatibility matrix.
- Lighter and thinner than a copper DAC of the same length, which helps airflow and cable management in dense racks.
- The pull tab is beige, which Cisco uses to identify the 1 m length.
What Will Not Work
- 10G SFP+ ports: Cisco does not publish 10G operation for its AOCs.
- Ports where FEC cannot be enabled.
- Links longer than 1 m — the length is fixed.
- QSFP28 (100G) ports without a breakout or adapter solution.
