Cisco SFP-H25G-CU1M – 25GBASE-CR1 SFP28 Passive Copper Direct Attach Cable, 1 m
25GBASE-CR1SFP28 ↔ SFP281 m passiveNo FEC needed
The Cisco SFP-H25G-CU1M is a 1-metre 25GBASE-CR1 passive copper direct attach cable (DAC) with an SFP28 connector fixed on each end. It is the simplest and lowest-power way to connect a Cisco 25G switch port to a server NIC, storage array or another switch in the same rack — no separate optics and no fibre patch cords.
Cisco specifies it as compliant with IEEE 802.3by and 802.3cc, and the 1 m length has an important advantage: Cisco states that 1 m, 1.5 m and 2 m cables do not require FEC on the host ports, which avoids one of the most common 25G link-up problems.
Before you order: Both ends are SFP28 25G — the ports at each end must support 25GBASE-CR1. Cisco does not publish 10G backward compatibility for this cable, so do not plan on using it between 10G SFP+ ports. 1 m is short: measure the path between the two ports, including cable management, before ordering.
What's in the Box
- 1 × Cisco SFP-H25G-CU1M= passive copper DAC cable, 1 m, SFP28 to SFP28 (connectors fixed to the cable)
What It Means in Practice
- Top-of-rack switch to server or storage in the same rack, 25 Gbit/s.
- No optics to buy and no fibre to clean — plug-and-play.
- No FEC needed on the host ports at 1 m, per Cisco.
- Supports FCoE with appropriate host software, per Cisco.
What Will Not Work
- Will not reach between racks — 1 m only; Cisco also offers longer DAC lengths (2.5–5 m need FC-FEC or RS-FEC).
- Will not connect a 25G port to a 10G-only SFP+ port (10G operation not published by Cisco).
- Not for QSFP ports without a breakout or adapter.
- Not a fibre cable — it cannot be extended or re-terminated.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to configure FEC?
Not at 1 m. Cisco states 1 m, 1.5 m and 2 m cables do not require FEC on the host ports; longer cables do.
Can I connect a non-Cisco server NIC?
Cisco states the cable interoperates with other IEEE-compliant 25G interfaces where applicable. Some NICs check cable vendor codes — send us the NIC model and we will check.
Is 1 m long enough?
Within a rack between adjacent devices usually yes. Measure the full path through cable management first.
Singular Expert Insight · Buyer's Guide
For 25G links inside a rack, a short passive DAC beats optics on cost, power and reliability — and at 1 m Cisco removes the FEC question entirely. Use optics (like SFP-10/25G-CSR-S=) only once you need to leave the rack. Matching server-side
25G network cards are worth checking at the same time.
✓ Buy it if you are connecting 25G SFP28 ports in the same rack and the run is within 1 m.
✕ Skip it if the devices are in different racks or one side is 10G SFP+ only.
→ Also consider Cisco SFP-10/25G-CSR-S= optics for links beyond the rack.
Send us both device models and the rack layout and we will confirm the right DAC length.
