The Cisco C9300-NM-2Q= is a hot-swappable uplink network module with two 40 Gigabit Ethernet QSFP+ ports for modular Catalyst 9300 switches. It turns the empty uplink slot of a C9300-24/48 switch into a 2x 40G connection to the core or distribution layer.
The "=" marks the spare (field-replaceable) version: it ships on its own, to add to a switch you already own or to replace or upgrade an existing module such as the C9300-NM-8X.
Before you order: it fits only the modular-uplink Catalyst 9300 models (for example C9300-24UX, C9300-48U, C9300-48UXM, C9300-48P). The Catalyst 9300L/9300LM have fixed uplinks and no slot; the Catalyst 9300X uses its own C9300X-NM modules.

What It Means in Practice
- Two 40G links to the core give 80 Gbps of uplink capacity per switch, or per stack when spread across members.
- Ports run at 40G by default with a 40G QSFP+ module inserted.
- Hot-swap: the module can be inserted or removed while the switch is running, so an upgrade from 10G to 40G uplinks does not need a reload of the switch.
What Will Not Work
- Catalyst 9300L, 9300LM (fixed uplinks), Catalyst 9200 (uses C9200-NM modules) and Catalyst 9300X (uses C9300X-NM modules).
- 25G or 100G links - use C9300-NM-2Y for 25G; 100G needs a Catalyst 9300X with C9300X-NM-2C/4C.
- Third-party optics: Cisco advises using only Cisco-supported pluggables.
