The Cisco Firepower 1120 (part number FPR1120-NGFW-K9) is a 1U rack-mount security appliance for growing offices, branch hubs and small data rooms, shipped with Cisco Secure Firewall Threat Defense (FTD) software. It has 8 × 1 GbE RJ-45 + 4 × 1 GbE SFP, a dedicated management port and 16 GB of memory with a field-replaceable 200 GB SSD. With Threat Defense Cisco rates it at 2.3 Gbps of firewall with application visibility and 2.3 Gbps with intrusion prevention switched on, managed from the on-box Device Manager, Firewall Management Center or Security Cloud Control. In practice it protects the internet edge, connects remote users and sites over VPN and separates the office network into safer zones.
Compatibility — check before buying:
It ships with Cisco Secure Firewall Threat Defense. The base firewall works out of the box, but IPS (Threat), Malware Defense, URL Filtering and Cisco Secure Client remote-access VPN are term subscriptions, not included. The four SFP ports are 1 GbE only and no transceivers are included. Do not confuse it with the Firepower 1140, which has the same ports but more throughput and sessions.
