The Cisco Firepower 1120 (part number FPR1120-NGFW-K9) is a 1U rack-mount security appliance for growing offices, branch hubs and small data rooms, shipped with Cisco Secure Firewall Threat Defense (FTD) software. It has 8 × 1 GbE RJ-45 + 4 × 1 GbE SFP, a dedicated management port and 16 GB of memory with a field-replaceable 200 GB SSD. With Threat Defense Cisco rates it at 2.3 Gbps of firewall with application visibility and 2.3 Gbps with intrusion prevention switched on, managed from the on-box Device Manager, Firewall Management Center or Security Cloud Control. In practice it protects the internet edge, connects remote users and sites over VPN and separates the office network into safer zones.

Compatibility — check before buying:
It ships with Cisco Secure Firewall Threat Defense. The base firewall works out of the box, but IPS (Threat), Malware Defense, URL Filtering and Cisco Secure Client remote-access VPN are term subscriptions, not included. The four SFP ports are 1 GbE only and no transceivers are included. Do not confuse it with the Firepower 1140, which has the same ports but more throughput and sessions. Tell us your internet line, users and VPN needs and we size it with you.

Can it run ASA instead of Threat Defense?
Yes. Cisco documents reimaging between ASA and Threat Defense on the Firepower 1120. The device must first be removed from Smart Licensing, and licences follow the software, so ask us before switching.
Which licences do I need?
The firewall works with the base licence. IPS (Threat), Malware Defense and URL Filtering are term subscriptions, and remote-access VPN needs Cisco Secure Client licences.
Are SFP modules included?
No. The four SFP ports take 1 GbE transceivers, ordered separately. For 10 GbE, look at the Firepower 1150.
How many users does it suit?
It depends on traffic more than headcount. Cisco rates it at 2.3 Gbps with application visibility. Tell us your internet speed and VPN users and we check the fit.
