The Cisco IP Phone 8851 is a five-line business desk phone from the Cisco 8800 Series with a 5-inch 800 x 480 colour widescreen, Bluetooth for wireless headsets and mobile pairing, a side USB port for USB headsets that can also charge a smartphone, support for up to two key expansion modules and a two-port Gigabit switch. It runs Enterprise firmware for Cisco on-premises call control.

Compatibility — check before buying:
This is the Enterprise version (no “3PCC” in the code): out of the box it registers to Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM), Business Edition or HCS and needs a Cisco user licence there. It does not work with a generic SIP provider until it is converted to Multiplatform firmware — free when moving to Webex Calling through Control Hub, otherwise with a paid Cisco conversion licence. Power depends on the hardware version: Cisco lists PoE Class 3 for units before V08 and Class 4 for V08 and later, so make sure the switch port can deliver Class 4, especially with key modules attached — or use the Cisco Power Cube 4, sold separately. Key expansion modules are sold separately too. Tell us the phone system or provider you use and we check compatibility before you buy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does my PoE switch need to be Class 4?
For current units, yes — Cisco lists Class 4 for hardware V08 and later, and Class 3 for older units. With key modules attached, plan for Class 4 or use the power cube.
Can I use a Bluetooth headset?
Yes, the 8851 has Bluetooth, plus a USB port for USB headsets.
Is a power supply included?
No. Use PoE or order the Cisco Power Cube 4 with the CE cord.
Will it work with a SIP provider?
Not out of the box — this is the CUCM version. Tell us the phone system or provider you use and we check compatibility before you buy.
