Cisco SFP-10/25G-CSR-S – Dual-Rate 10/25GBASE-CSR SFP28 Transceiver for Multimode Fibre
10G / 25GSFP28 · 850 nm400 m OM4Duplex LC
The Cisco SFP-10/25G-CSR-S is a dual-rate SFP28 transceiver that runs at either 25 Gbit/s or 10 Gbit/s over duplex LC multimode fibre, with an extended reach of up to 300 m on OM3 and 400 m on OM4. It is designed for 25G server and access-to-distribution links on Cisco switches, and for migration projects where one side is still at 10G.
CSR stands for Cisco's extended-reach short-wave optic: compared with a plain 25GBASE-SR it reaches much further, provided the host port runs RS-FEC at 25G. The -S marks Cisco's S-Class Ethernet optics; Cisco notes that this part also supports FCoE with the appropriate host software.
Before you order: The full 300 m (OM3) / 400 m (OM4) at 25G only applies when the host port runs RS-FEC (Clause 108). With BASE-R FEC the reach drops to 70/100 m, and with no FEC to 30/50 m. At 10G no FEC is needed. When paired with a standard 10G-SR optic, Cisco warns the receiver may be overloaded — check its optics interoperability matrix.
What's in the Box
- 1 × Cisco SFP-10/25G-CSR-S= SFP28 transceiver
- Dust plug on the optical port
- No fibre patch cords included
What It Means in Practice
- Use the same optic at 25G today and at 10G where the far end is not upgraded yet — the module runs at the highest speed both ends support.
- Covers most building risers and data-centre rows on OM4 (400 m at 25G with RS-FEC).
- Low 1.2 W power draw per module.
- Peach pull tab helps identify it in a patch field.
What Will Not Work
- Will not reach 300/400 m at 25G if the host port has FEC disabled or set to BASE-R — check the port configuration.
- Will not work over single-mode fibre or with LR optics on the far end.
- Not a 1G module — it runs at 10G or 25G only.
- Requires an SFP28 (or 10G SFP+ for 10G operation) port; it will not fit QSFP ports without an adapter.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I connect it to a 25G NIC in a server?
Yes, if the NIC uses a standards-compatible 25G SR optic and both ends agree on FEC. For the longest reach both sides should run RS-FEC.
Will it link to my existing 10G-SR optics?
It runs at 10G, but Cisco warns a standard 10G-SR may overload its receiver; check Cisco's optics-to-optics interoperability matrix or ask us.
Which fibre do I need for 400 m?
OM4 (or OM5) multimode with duplex LC/UPC connectors.
Singular Expert Insight · Buyer's Guide
For most 25G campus and server links, the CSR's extra reach removes the need for single-mode fibre — but only if FEC is set correctly on both ends; most 25G link problems we see are FEC mismatches, not bad optics. If your servers are in the same rack, a DAC cable is cheaper still. Check matching
25G network cards for the server side.
✓ Buy it if you need 25G (or 10G now, 25G later) links on Cisco SFP28 ports over multimode fibre up to 400 m.
✕ Skip it if the run is in the same rack (use a DAC) or you need more than 400 m (use single-mode LR optics).
→ Also consider Cisco SFP-H25G-CU1M= DAC for in-rack 25G links and QSFP-100G-SR4-S= for 100G uplinks.
Send us both ends of the link (switch/NIC models) and we will confirm FEC and optic compatibility before you order.
