This is the S-Class QSFP-40G-LR4-S variant for 40GBASE Ethernet. Cisco states that it supports the 40GBASE Ethernet rate only and does not support FCoE. Do not confuse it with the QSFP-40G-LR4 version, which is a different product and additionally supports OTU3 data rates. 40GBASE-LR4 over two fibre strands
Unlike parallel-fibre 40G SR4 optics, the LR4 module uses a standard duplex single-mode fibre pair with LC connectors. Four optical wavelengths are multiplexed onto the same transmit fibre and separated again at the receiving end.
