The Cisco GLC-FE-100LX-RGD is a rugged 100 Mbit/s (Fast Ethernet) SFP transceiver for 100BASE-LX10 links of up to 10 km over single-mode fibre, rated −40 to 85 °C. Cisco designs it for the Fast Ethernet and dual-rate Fast/Gigabit SFP ports of its Industrial Ethernet and SmartGrid switches and routers, such as the Catalyst IE3400, IE4000 and Catalyst IR1101.

It is typically used where field devices, substations, pumping stations or traffic cabinets still run Fast Ethernet over long single-mode fibre — the low speed is a deliberate choice for compatibility with existing equipment, not a limitation of the fibre.

Before you order: This is a 100 Mbit/s optic. It only works in SFP ports that support Fast Ethernet (100 Mb or dual-rate 100M/1G) — it will not come up in Gigabit-only SFP ports, and the far end must also be a 100BASE-LX10 single-mode optic.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why would I choose 100 Mb instead of Gigabit?
When the far end — an RTU, older industrial switch or field device — only has a 100BASE-LX10 fibre port. Both ends must run the same standard.
Will it work in my Catalyst 9300?
Only if that SFP port supports 100 Mb SFPs. Most Gigabit/10G access ports are not designed for FE optics; send us the model and we will check.
Does it support DOM?
Cisco's documentation is not consistent on this module, so do not rely on DOM readings.
