Conceptronic ABBY21B USB 3.0 to SATA Adapter with Power Adapter

The Conceptronic ABBY21B is a USB 3.0 to SATA adapter that connects a bare 2.5" or 3.5" SATA hard drive or SSD directly to a computer — a practical tool for data recovery from an old PC or laptop drive, cloning, backups and quick file transfers, without opening a case or buying an enclosure.
It plugs into a USB port (5 Gbps, with UASP support) on one side and the drive’s 22-pin SATA data and power connector on the other. A 12 V / 2 A power adapter is included for 3.5" desktop drives, which cannot run on USB power alone. Conceptronic lists support for drives up to 10 TB.
Before you order: 3.5" desktop drives must be powered by the included 12 V adapter. The adapter is for SATA drives only — it does not support M.2 NVMe, mSATA or old IDE/PATA drives.
What's in the Box
- Conceptronic ABBY21B USB 3.0 SATA adapter
- Power adapter (12 V / 2 A)
- Multilingual quick installation guide
What It Means in Practice
- Recover files from an old laptop or desktop drive: connect the bare drive and it appears as a USB drive.
- Clone or back up a drive before a PC upgrade.
- 2.5" laptop drives and SSDs normally run from USB power; plug in the 12 V adapter for 3.5" drives.
- No drivers needed on Windows, macOS, ChromeOS or Linux.
What Will Not Work
- M.2 NVMe or M.2 SATA SSDs, mSATA or IDE/PATA drives — a different adapter is needed.
- Running a 3.5" HDD without the supplied power adapter.
- Full 6 Gbps SATA speed over USB — the USB 3.0 link is 5 Gbps, and real speed depends on the drive.
- Protecting the bare drive — it is an adapter, not an enclosure.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does a 2.5" SSD need the power adapter?
Usually not; 2.5" drives normally run from USB power. The adapter is needed for 3.5" drives.
Will my computer see the drive immediately?
Yes, if the drive is formatted. A brand-new drive must be initialised and formatted first (Disk Management on Windows, Disk Utility on macOS).
Can I connect it to a USB-C laptop?
The product images show a 2-in-1 USB-A / USB-C plug; if your laptop has only USB-C, send us the model and we will confirm.
Singular Expert Insight · Buyer's Guide
A bare-drive adapter like the ABBY21B is the quickest way to rescue data from an old PC or laptop. Because it includes a 12 V supply, it also handles 3.5" desktop drives, which USB-only adapters cannot. If you want a permanent home for the drive, look at our
HDD/SSD enclosures.
✓ Buy it if you need to read, clone or back up bare 2.5" or 3.5" SATA drives.
✕ Skip it if your drive is M.2 NVMe, mSATA or IDE, or you want a protective enclosure.
→ Also consider A HDD/SSD docking station if you swap drives often.
