Datalogic Gryphon I GBT4500 HD (GBT4500-BK-HD-WLC) is a cordless handheld 2D megapixel imager from Datalogic’s Gryphon 4500 series, linking to its base over Bluetooth and built for retail counters, warehouses, back offices and electronics or pharma work where labels carry very small, dense codes.

It reads 1D and 2D codes from paper labels and from phone and tablet screens, with a 1280 x 800 sensor, white LED illumination and a red laser aiming cross that makes it obvious where you are pointing. The High Density optics focus closer and resolve codes down to 3 mil, at the cost of a shorter maximum range than the Standard Range version.

• You can walk away from the till or desk: Bluetooth reaches about 100 m in open air, less through shelving and walls.
• Charging is contactless: drop the scanner in the WLC4090-BK-BT base and it charges without exposed contacts that wear or get dirty.
• A full charge takes about 3 hours when the base has its own power supply; on USB power alone it takes about 11 hours.
• It reads codes on customers’ phones (tickets, loyalty cards, payment QR codes) as easily as printed labels.
• High Density optics are meant for small, tightly printed codes on electronics, jewellery tags or pharma packs — 3 mil Code 39 reads at 5–15 cm.

• It will not work on its own out of the box — without a compatible base (or the kit version) it has nothing to charge from or to talk to.
• It cannot use Datalogic 433 MHz STAR bases — those are for the GM models.
• Do not choose the HD version for long-range reading: a 13 mil EAN-13 tops out at about 40 cm versus about 71 cm on the SR version.
• It is not a Digimarc model — Datalogic sells that as a separate DGM version.
