The Datalogic Gryphon I GD4590-HC is a corded 2D healthcare handheld scanner with a disinfectant-ready housing, for hospitals, clinics, laboratories and pharmacies that scan patient wristbands, medication, specimens and documents at workstations and carts. Its 1 MP imager reads 1D down to 4 mil plus PDF417, Data Matrix and QR, on labels and screens.
This healthcare kit includes the scanner and a 2 m USB cable. The GD4590 is multi-interface (RS-232, USB, keyboard wedge), and the housing uses anti-microbial additives and plastics designed for daily wiping with harsh hospital disinfectants.

What It Means in Practice
- Connect by USB to a workstation, medication cart or lab PC and scan straight into the EMR, HIS or LIS as keyboard input.
- Wipe it down daily with hospital disinfectants - the housing is designed for it (wipe, not spray or pour).
- Reads small codes on vials, tubes and wristbands as well as codes on phone screens.
- Warm white illumination and a red laser aimer make aiming easy in wards and labs.
What Will Not Work
- It is corded - no battery or Bluetooth for bedside mobility (choose a cordless healthcare model for that).
- Do not spray or immerse it - disinfect by wiping only.
- The kit cable is USB; RS-232 hosts need a different Datalogic cable.
