Dell KB216 — Wired Multimedia Keyboard, US International, Black
Chiclet keysMedia hotkeysFn lockWired USB
The Dell KB216 (580-ADHK) is the keyboard Dell ships with millions of its desktops, and it is bought again and again for the same reason: it works, it is quiet, and it costs very little. The keys are chiclet style on Dell’s plunger technology, and the top row carries real function: volume up, down and mute, play/pause, previous and next track, plus sleep, search, print screen, scroll lock and pause — with Fn + Esc toggling the whole row between F1–F12 and the media functions, so you choose which behaviour is the default. It is a full-size layout in black, connects over USB with the cable attached, and Dell publishes it as RoHS and REACH compliant in a HIPS-HB case. In the box: keyboard and USB cable.
Compatibility — check before buying:
Layout: US International QWERTY is the layout most people in Cyprus type on: wide Enter key, @ above 2. If your current keyboard is UK layout, the Enter key changes shape and a few symbols move, but letters and numbers are identical. This is a wired USB keyboard, so there is nothing to charge or pair and it works in the BIOS and in boot menus. There is no wireless option, no Bluetooth, no backlight and no palm rest. Dell publishes remarkably little else about it: no key count, no key travel, no key-life rating, no cable length, no spill rating, no tilt angle and no operating-system list anywhere on the part page. It also publishes 0% post-consumer recycled plastic in its own regulatory datasheet, which is worth knowing if you have a recycled-content policy. Dell gives dimensions only on the sibling US English part number, where the same keyboard measures about 442 × 127 × 25 mm and 503 g — treat those as indicative rather than published for this code.
Best For
✓ Replacing the keyboard that came with a Dell desktop
✓ Offices and schools buying wired boards in quantity
✓ Machines that need keyboard access before Windows loads
✓ Quiet rooms, thanks to the chiclet action
✓ Desks that want media keys without any software
✓ Shared and public workstations
Key Features
Media keys that are actually keys
Volume, mute and track control on the top row rather than behind a utility — and Fn + Esc decides whether F1 to F12 or the media functions are the default.
Chiclet, and quiet with it
Flat chiclet keycaps on plunger switches: a short, quiet action that suits an open-plan room.
Nothing to install
Wired USB, plug and play, no drivers and no configuration — it works in the BIOS and on a fresh machine.
Compliance on the record
Dell publishes RoHS and REACH compliance and the EMC class for this keyboard, which purchasing departments occasionally have to prove.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do the F-keys work as F-keys?
Both ways — Fn + Esc locks the top row to either F1 to F12 or the media functions, so you set whichever you use more often as the default.
Does it work before Windows loads?
Yes. It is a wired USB keyboard, so it is available in the BIOS and in boot menus.
Why are there no dimensions or key-life figures?
Dell does not publish them for this part number. Rather than copy figures from another code, we say so — ask us and we will measure a unit for you.
Which layout is this part number?
Dell publishes this one explicitly as US International. Other layouts exist under separate Dell part numbers.
Singular Expert Insight
The KB216 is a replacement purchase, and a sensible one: the same keyboard that came with the machine, with real media keys, for very little. If you want published durability figures, the CHERRY KC 1000 tells you far more about what you are buying. See our
