Dell UltraSharp U3824DW — 38" WQHD+ IPS Black Curved USB-C Hub Monitor

Deeper blacks than any standard IPS ultrawide — WQHD+ at 2000:1, USB-C 90W docking, 2.5G Ethernet, dual 9W speakers and Auto KVM in a single curved display.

IPS Black 2000:1 WQHD+ 3840×1600 USB-C 90W + 2.5G LAN 2× 9W Speakers · Auto KVM

The Dell UltraSharp U3824DW is a 37.5-inch WQHD+ curved IPS Black ultrawide monitor that combines an unusually wide 3840×1600 display with the high-contrast IPS Black panel technology previously reserved for the UltraSharp flagship range. Its 2000:1 native contrast ratio — double that of standard IPS — delivers noticeably deeper blacks and richer shadow detail for productivity, media and colour-critical work. USB-C with 90W Power Delivery connects any compatible laptop in a single cable alongside 2.5G Ethernet. Two 9W built-in speakers, Auto KVM for two-PC control, a comprehensive USB hub and pop-out front ports make this one of the most fully equipped 38-inch ultrawides in the market.

Best For

✓ Professionals wanting wider viewing area than 34" UWQHD

✓ Laptop users replacing dual 27" monitors with one cable

✓ Two-PC setups needing Auto KVM

✓ Anyone wanting deeper blacks without OLED pricing

Key Features

IPS Black · 2000:1 Contrast

IPS Black technology doubles the native contrast ratio vs standard IPS panels — deeper blacks, richer shadow detail and more vivid imagery, without sacrificing the wide viewing angles and colour accuracy IPS is known for.

WQHD+ 38" Ultrawide

3840×1600 at 37.5 inches — wider than UWQHD 34" and sharper than 5K2K 40" at this screen size. More horizontal space than a dual 27" QHD setup, with no bezel gap and 2300R curvature that reduces eye travel across the panel.

USB-C 90W + 2.5G Ethernet

One USB-C cable delivers WQHD+ video, 90W laptop charging and 2.5G Ethernet simultaneously. The RJ45 lock feature pins the Ethernet connection to a specific PC while KVM switches keyboard and mouse between the two.

2× 9W Speakers + Auto KVM

Dual 9W integrated speakers (18W total) fill the wide soundstage of a 38-inch panel. Auto KVM detects a second PC and switches keyboard and mouse control automatically — no button press needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is IPS Black and how does it differ from standard IPS?

IPS Black is a panel technology from Dell and LG that achieves 2000:1 native contrast ratio — double the 1000:1 typical of standard IPS panels. This means darker blacks and a greater perceived depth in dark content, while retaining all the colour accuracy and wide viewing angles that IPS is known for.

What is WQHD+ 3840×1600 and how does it compare to UWQHD 3440×1440?

WQHD+ 3840×1600 is a wider ultrawide resolution than UWQHD 3440×1440 — it gives you 11% more horizontal pixels and 11% more vertical pixels, for a larger total viewing area. It is particularly well suited to the 38" screen size, where the extra resolution keeps text sharp at typical desktop scaling.

Does USB-C carry video, 90W charging and 2.5G Ethernet at once?

Yes. The USB-C upstream port delivers WQHD+ 60Hz video (DP 1.4 Alt Mode), 90W Power Delivery and 2.5G Ethernet simultaneously through a single cable — compatible with all USB-C laptops that support DisplayPort Alt Mode.

How does Auto KVM work?

Auto KVM detects when a second PC is connected and automatically switches keyboard and mouse control to it. You can also manually switch using the OSD joystick or a hotkey. The RJ45 lock feature lets you keep the Ethernet connection assigned to one specific PC regardless of which is actively in use.

Singular Expert Insight

The U3824DW sits in a sweet spot between 34" UWQHD and 40" 5K2K: wider than 34" for more usable screen space, with IPS Black 2000:1 contrast that none of the 34" models match, and more pixel density than the 40" 5K2K models at a lower price. Choose it if you want the best balance of screen width, contrast and desk footprint in the UltraSharp hub family. If you need Thunderbolt 4, 120Hz or 5K2K resolution, the U4025QW is the step up. If 34" is sufficient and you want Thunderbolt 4, the U3425WE fits.

Buyer's Guide

Buy it if

You want a 38" IPS Black ultrawide with USB-C 90W docking, 2.5G Ethernet, 9W speakers and Auto KVM — the deepest-black hub monitor in the UltraSharp line without paying for 5K2K.

Skip it if

You need Thunderbolt 4, 120Hz refresh, HDR or 5K2K resolution — the U4025QW is the correct choice, or the U3425WE for 34" Thunderbolt 4.

Also consider

Dell U3425WE (34" UWQHD, Thunderbolt 4, 120Hz) for a more compact Thunderbolt hub. Dell U4025QW (40" 5K2K, TB4 140W, 120Hz) if you want the full flagship experience.
