The Delock 64214 is a silver metal bar 86 mm long and 7 mm thick with a 10 cm lead that ends in both a USB-C plug and a USB-A plug — the Type-A adapter is moulded onto the cable, so it cannot be lost and the same hub fits a new laptop and an old desktop. It gives four USB-A sockets: one at 5 Gbps and three at USB 2.0.
Compatibility — check before buying:
The port mix is the whole decision here. Only one of the four sockets runs at 5 Gbps. The other three are USB 2.0 at 480 Mbps. Delock puts this in the product name itself. An external SSD, a fast card reader or a high-resolution webcam must go in the single fast socket; anything else on the hub will be capped at a tenth of that speed. If you need four fast ports, Delock’s 63828 is the same USB-C-or-USB-A idea with all four at 5 Gbps and a 20 cm cable. If you want seven ports, the 64273 has the same one-fast-six-slow split. The 64214 is bus-powered with no DC jack and no USB-C power input, and Delock states plainly that the power available to connected devices depends on the input power and how many things are plugged in — so bus-powered hard drives are outside what this hub is for. One host at a time: the two plugs are on one cable and only one goes into a machine.
