Delock 63173 — four 5 Gbps ports along the sides of a small metal block

4 x USB-A at 5 GbpsPorts on the sides, not the endMetal housing, 90 mmGL3510 controller

The Delock 63173 is a compact metal hub that turns one USB-C port into four USB-A sockets at up to 5 Gbps. Delock puts the ports along the sides rather than in a row on the end, which keeps wide connectors from crowding each other, and the whole unit is 90 x 30 x 13 mm on a 20 cm cable. Inside is a Genesys Logic GL3510 controller, and the hub is plug and play across Windows, macOS, Linux and Chrome OS, as well as recent iPads, the Surface Pro 7 and the PlayStation 5.

Compatibility — check before buying:
The host plug is USB-C only and no USB-A adapter is included, so an older laptop cannot use it. The hub is bus-powered with no power input: four devices share whatever the single host port supplies, and Delock notes that what the connected devices receive depends on the input power and how many are plugged in. There is no Power Delivery, so it occupies the USB-C port and does not charge the notebook. Check the item number before ordering — Delock builds several near-identical small metal hubs, including 64272 (3 x USB-C plus 1 x USB-A), 64275 (1 x USB-C plus 2 x USB-A) and 64274 (1 x 10 Gbps USB-A plus 2 x USB 2.0).

Best For

✓ USB-C laptops and tablets that still use USB-A devices
✓ Wide flash drives and dongles that block each other
✓ Mice, keyboards and wireless receivers
✓ Travel and bags, at 90 mm of metal
✓ iPad Pro, iPad Air and Surface Pro users
✓ PlayStation 5 owners adding USB ports

Key Features

Ports along the sides
Delock spreads the four USB-A sockets along the sides of the housing rather than lining them up on one end, so a wide flash drive or a chunky receiver does not cover the port next to it.

Metal, and only 90 mm
A 90 x 30 x 13 mm metal housing on a 20 cm cable — solid enough to survive a bag, small enough that it is never the reason you leave the hub at home.

A named controller and a broad device list
A Genesys Logic GL3510 controller, with Delock listing Windows, macOS, Linux, Chrome OS, iPad Pro and Air, Surface Pro 7 and the PlayStation 5 as compatible hosts.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why are the ports on the sides?
Because connectors are wider than sockets. On a hub with four ports in a row on one end, a fat flash drive or a wireless receiver with a large body covers its neighbour and you end up using two of the four. Spreading them along the sides gives each connector clearance. It also means the hub lies flat on the desk rather than being pushed about by four cables pulling in the same direction.
Will it work with my iPad or PlayStation?
Delock lists iPad Pro 3rd generation or above, iPad Air 4th generation or above, the Surface Pro 7 and the PlayStation 5 among the compatible hosts, alongside Windows, macOS, Linux and Chrome OS. On a tablet or console, remember where the power comes from: the host feeds the hub, so a bus-powered hard drive is a poor idea and a keyboard, controller or flash drive is fine.
Which Delock hubs am I likely to confuse it with?
Several, because they share the same small metal housing and only the item number distinguishes them. 63173 is this one: USB-C host, four USB-A ports at 5 Gbps. 64272 is USB-C host with three USB-C and one USB-A. 64275 is three ports, one USB-C and two USB-A. 64274 is three ports with one 10 Gbps USB-A and two USB 2.0. Order by the number and not by the photograph.
Singular Expert Insight
This is a small, well-made version of the most-bought accessory in our USB hub range, and the side-mounted ports are its one genuine design advantage — it is the difference between four usable sockets and two, if what you plug in is wide. The GL3510 controller is a known, well-behaved part, and Delock publishes an unusually broad host list including tablets and the PlayStation 5. What it does not do is add power: bus-powered with no input at all, so it is a hub for peripherals and USB flash drives rather than for spinning drives, which want a mains-powered model. The one ordering caution is real — Delock sells 64272, 64274 and 64275 in the same housing with completely different port mixes.

Buyer’s Guide

Buy it if

Your laptop, tablet or console has USB-C and you need full-size USB-A ports. Wide connectors keep blocking each other on your current hub. You want a small metal unit rather than a plastic one.

Skip it if

Your machine has no USB-C port — no adapter is included. You need to run bus-powered hard drives or charge devices from the hub. You need USB-C sockets on the hub itself: that is Delock 64272.

Also consider

Delock 64272 if you want three USB-C ports instead. A mains-powered hub if drives are involved. A USB-C hub with PD pass-through if the laptop charges over USB-C and has few ports.
