Delock 61896 — two 5 Gbps USB ports on the front of the tower

2 x USB-A at 5 Gbps3.5-inch bay with 5.25-inch frameInternal 19-pin headerScrews included

The Delock 61896 puts two USB 5 Gbps ports where you can reach them: the front of the computer. It fits a free 3.5-inch bay and ships with a 5.25-inch frame as well, so it goes into either size of opening, and it connects internally to a spare 19-pin USB 3.0 header on the motherboard via a 60 cm cable. Screws are in the box, it needs no drivers and it is independent of the operating system — the ports simply appear.

Compatibility — check before buying:
Two things have to be true of your machine before this fits. There must be a free 3.5-inch or 5.25-inch bay — many modern cases, and almost all small-form-factor and glass-front designs, no longer have one. And the motherboard must have a spare internal 19-pin USB 3.0 header, the wide two-row block; a board whose only front-panel header is already used by the case, or one that has only the newer 20-pin Type-E connector, cannot feed this panel. The cable is 60 cm, which reaches most ATX layouts but is worth checking in a large tower with a bottom-mounted board. It is a passive panel: no power connector, no hub electronics and no card reader.

Best For

✓ Towers whose front USB ports are broken or too few
✓ Machines under a desk where the rear ports are unreachable
✓ Older cases with an unused 3.5-inch or 5.25-inch bay
✓ Boards with a spare 19-pin USB 3.0 header
✓ Workshop and service machines
✓ Anyone tired of reaching behind the computer

Key Features

Fits either bay size
Delock supplies the 3.5-inch panel and a 5.25-inch frame in the same box, so it drops into whichever opening the case actually has, with the screws included.

Real 5 Gbps, from the board
Both ports are USB 5 Gbps and are fed directly from an internal 19-pin USB 3.0 header, so the speed is whatever the motherboard provides rather than being throttled by hub electronics.

Nothing to install
OS independent with no driver installation: connect the header, screw the panel in and the ports appear the next time the machine boots.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know my motherboard can take it?
Look for a spare internal USB 3.0 header: a wide, two-row block of 19 pins, usually labelled USB3 or F_USB3 and often placed along the right edge of the board. Most ATX and micro-ATX boards from the last decade have one or two, but the case’s own front ports usually occupy one already. If yours is taken, this panel has nowhere to plug in. Send us your motherboard model and we will check it before you order.
Will it fit my case?
It needs a free 3.5-inch bay, and the supplied 5.25-inch frame lets it go into a larger optical-drive opening instead. What it cannot do is fit a case with no external bays at all, which describes most current mid-tower designs with tempered-glass fronts and almost every small-form-factor case. Look at the front of your machine: if there is no removable panel or old optical-drive slot, this is not the right product.
Is it a hub, or does it just extend the ports?
It extends them. This is a passive panel with no hub controller and no power connector — the two front ports are the motherboard header, brought to the front of the case. That is an advantage: you get exactly the speed and behaviour of the board’s own ports, with nothing in between to add latency or share bandwidth. It also means it adds no ports beyond what the header provides.
Singular Expert Insight
This is the cheapest way to fix a genuinely irritating problem: a tower under the desk whose front USB ports are broken, too few, or USB 2.0 only. Because the panel is passive, the two ports behave exactly like the motherboard’s own — no hub controller, no shared bandwidth, no power budget to worry about. That also sets its limits, and they are the two things to verify first: a free bay in the case and a spare 19-pin header on the board. If your machine fails either test, an external hub from our USB hub range is the answer instead, and if what you actually wanted was to empty memory cards at the front of the machine, our card readers cover that separately. Note the family too: Delock 61005 is the 5.25-inch-only version of the same idea.

Buyer’s Guide

Buy it if

Your tower has a free 3.5-inch or 5.25-inch bay and the board has a spare 19-pin USB 3.0 header. The front ports on the machine are broken, too few or only USB 2.0. You want the ports to behave exactly like the motherboard’s own.

Skip it if

Your case has no external bays — most current designs do not. The motherboard’s USB 3.0 header is already used by the case front panel, or the board only has the newer 20-pin Type-E connector. You wanted extra ports rather than relocated ones.

Also consider

Delock 61005 for the 5.25-inch-only version. An external USB hub if the case has no free bay or the header is taken. A front panel with a card reader if you also empty SD cards at the machine.
