Check the size range carefully. DICOTA publishes this model as 14.0 to 16.0 inch, with a maximum device size of 385 x 30 x 265 mm. That millimetre figure is the one that actually matters — screen size is a poor guide to physical size across manufacturers, so measure a thick or large-footprint machine against it. Note that our own previous listing rendered the range as “14.0 - 16.0 mm”, which was a unit error; it is inches.

Do not confuse this with the larger FIVE. DICOTA sells an almost identical backpack, the Backpack FIVE 15-17.3, with the same feature list but 25 litres, 15 to 17.3 inch fit and a different article number. Because the two share a word-for-word feature description they are easy to mix up in listings. This one is the 14-16, at 19 litres and 1.05 kg.

On the recycled claim, note the distinction DICOTA itself draws. The fabrics are described as 100% Recycled PET Polyester, but the whole-product RPET ratio is 77%, because zips, fittings, foam and hardware are not fabric. We publish 77% for the bag and 100% for the fabrics, and we do not describe it as a 100% recycled backpack. DICOTA requires its recycled-yarn suppliers to comply with the Global Recycled Standard, but publishes no article-level GRS, bluesign, OEKO-TEX or Blue Angel certification, so we claim none.

Two things are lockable and the rest is not. DICOTA specifies a YKK lockable zipper on the notebook compartment only; the remaining compartments use standard zips. And while the main material is described as water repellent, there is no water resistance rating and no rain cover is included — DICOTA sells a universal rain cover separately.

There is a lot of recycled marketing on laptop bags and most of it does not survive contact with a specification sheet. DICOTA’s FIVE line does, which is the main reason to look at this one. The claim is not simply that the outer fabric contains recycled polyester — almost every bag says that now — but that the interior lining does too, and DICOTA publishes the arithmetic: 77% RPET across the finished product, from 33 bottles. That figure is lower than the 100% you see on the fabric spec, and DICOTA does not hide the gap; zips, foam, buckles and metalwork are not fabric. A brand that publishes both numbers is telling you something about how it handles the rest of its data.

The bag underneath the credentials is a competent business backpack. Nineteen litres is the right size for a daily commute rather than a week away: a 16 inch laptop, a tablet, a charger, lunch, and not much more. The V-shaped laptop compartment with DICOTA’s cushion technology and EVA foam in the corners addresses the failure mode that actually happens, which is setting a bag down harder than you meant to. And the lockable YKK zip on the laptop section, combined with the T-lock D-ring, means the machine can be secured in a way most backpacks do not offer.

Two features are worth more than their line on a spec sheet. The RFID pocket has become genuinely relevant now that cards, passports and building passes are all contactless. And the hidden pocket on the back panel — the side that sits against you when the bag is worn — is where a phone and a wallet belong in a busy airport or on a crowded bus. Neither is exotic; both are the sort of thing you notice you have when you need them.

Be clear about the limits. Water repellent is not waterproof, and DICOTA is careful to say only the former; there is no rating and no rain cover in the box. There is no waist belt or sternum strap published, so this is a bag for a commute rather than a hike — the hip-bag loops are for an accessory, not a load-bearing belt. And only the laptop compartment locks. None of that is a criticism of a 19 litre business backpack; it is simply what it is and is not.

Finally, the warranty. DICOTA publishes a lifetime guarantee on bags and backpacks against material and workmanship defects, capped at 30 years in Germany for legal reasons, and this model qualifies — the 24-month carve-out applies to wheeled bags, which this is not. On a component that gets used every single working day, and where the usual failure is a zip or a seam rather than the fabric, that is the most valuable line in the specification.
