Digitus QSFP+ 40G Active Optical Cable — 30 m
40G AOC30 mQSFP+ ↔ QSFP+QSFP MSA
The Digitus QSFP+ 40G Active Optical Cable is a 30-metre, ready-made 40 Gigabit link: two QSFP+ transceivers permanently joined by 850 nm multimode fibre, for connecting switches, servers and storage across a room or between rows of racks.
At 30 m it covers distances where copper DAC cables cannot reach, yet you still avoid buying two optics and a separate fibre patch cord. It is built to the QSFP MSA and IEEE 802.3ba (40GbE) specifications and runs four full-duplex lanes of up to 11.3 Gbps each.
Before you order: Digitus lists many compatible brands, but switch vendors can lock their ports to their own coded optics. Send us the switch/NIC model on both ends and we will check before you order.
What's in the Box
- 1 × Digitus QSFP+ 40G active optical cable, 30 m, with a QSFP+ transceiver fixed on each end
- 1 × quick start guide
What It Means in Practice
- One cable = one 40G port-to-port link of up to 30 m, with no separate optics or patch cords to buy.
- Both ends must be QSFP+ ports running 40G; the cable does not break out into 4 × 10G.
- Plan the route before ordering: the 30 m length is fixed and the transceiver ends must be pulled carefully through ducts.
- Low power draw (under 1.5 W per the manufacturer), so it adds very little heat at the switch front.
What Will Not Work
- It does not break out to 4 × SFP+ 10G ports — it is a straight QSFP+ to QSFP+ cable.
- It will not run 100G and does not fit SFP/SFP+ ports.
- Ports that only accept their vendor’s own coded optics (common on some Cisco, HPE and Juniper models) may reject it.
- It cannot be shortened or re-terminated; for patch-panel routing use separate optics and structured fibre.
Key Features
40GbE over fibre
Four full-duplex lanes up to 11.3 Gbps each (45.2 Gbps aggregate), 850 nm multimode.
30 m reach
Covers room-scale runs that copper DAC cannot, without separate transceivers.
Multi-protocol
Besides 40GbE the manufacturer lists Fibre Channel (2G–12.5G), InfiniBand SDR/DDR/QDR, PCIe and SAS applications.

Frequently Asked Questions
Singular Expert Insight · Buyer's Guide
A 30 m AOC is a practical way to join two 40G switches in different rows without structured fibre. The main thing to check is whether both switches accept MSA-compatible optics. Building or upgrading the switching layer? See our switches.
✓ Buy it if you need a fixed 40G link of up to 30 m between QSFP+ ports that accept MSA optics.
✕ Skip it if you need breakout to 10G, more than 30 m, or your switch accepts only vendor-coded optics.
→ Also consider Shorter QSFP+ AOC or DAC cables for in-rack links, or separate 40G optics with structured fibre for longer routes.
Not sure your switch accepts it? Send us the model on both ends and we will check compatibility before you order.
