DIGITUS CAT 8.1 Keystone Module, Shielded, Tool-Free — 2-Pack
CAT 8.1 · 2000 MHz25/40GBASE-TTool-freePack of 2
The DIGITUS DN-93816-2 is a pack of 2 shielded CAT 8.1 RJ45 keystone modules with tool-free termination, rated to 2000 MHz for 25GBASE-T and 40GBASE-T links over short data-centre distances. It is aimed at installers building top-of-rack or middle-of-row copper links and anyone future-proofing a shielded installation.
Each module has a nickel-plated zinc die-cast housing with 360° shield contact and colour-coded LSA strips for T568A or T568B wiring, so it terminates without a punch-down tool. DIGITUS states 24 modules fit side by side in a 19-inch 1U panel.
Before you order: CAT 8 performance (25/40GBASE-T) is specified for short links only: up to 24 m permanent link and 30 m channel. For longer runs or ordinary office 1G/10G cabling, a CAT 6A module is the usual choice. A CAT 8.1 link also needs shielded CAT 8.1 cable and patch cords end to end.
What's in the Box
- 2x DIGITUS CAT 8.1 keystone module, shielded, tool-free (DN-93816)
- Cable tie for strain relief
- No patch panel, face plate or cable included
What It Means in Practice
- 25G/40G over copper between a switch and servers in the same or adjacent rack, inside the 30 m channel limit.
- Tool-free LSA termination: lay the pairs in the colour-coded slots and close the module — no punch-down tool needed.
- Fully shielded 360° contact keeps the cable screen continuous into the panel earth, which shielded cabling needs to work as intended.
- PoE, PoE+ and 4PPoE (IEEE 802.3af/at/bt) are supported in the permanent link, so cameras and access points can be powered through it.
What Will Not Work
- It will not deliver CAT 8 speeds over unshielded (U/UTP) cable or with lower-category patch cords — the whole channel must be CAT 8.1.
- It will not reach 25/40GBASE-T beyond 30 m channel length.
- Keystone format only: it needs a keystone patch panel, outlet or junction box — it is not a cable plug.
- Conductors outside 22–26 AWG are not specified.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need CAT 8 for a normal office network?
Usually not. CAT 8.1 is for 25/40GBASE-T over short data-centre links. For 1G or 10G desktop cabling up to 100 m, CAT 6A is the standard choice.
Can I mix it with CAT 6A patch cords?
The link will work, but performance is limited by the weakest component. For 25/40G, every part of the channel must be CAT 8.1.
Does it fit any keystone panel?
It is a standard keystone-format module. DIGITUS states 24 fit side by side in a 19-inch 1U panel. Tell us your panel or outlet model and we will check.
Singular Expert Insight · Buyer's Guide
CAT 8.1 only pays off when you actually run 25G or 40G over copper inside the 30 m limit, typically switch-to-server in a data centre. For general building cabling, shielded CAT 6A is cheaper and covers 10G to 100 m. Plan the full channel, including
rack accessories and shielded patch panels with proper earthing.
✓ Buy it if you are building short shielded 25G/40G copper links or want maximum headroom in a rack.
✕ Skip it if you are cabling desks at 1G/10G — a CAT 6A keystone is the better-value fit.
→ Also consider the 24-pack of the same module to fill a full 24-port panel.
