DIGITUS DA-70222 — seven mains-powered USB 2.0 ports for the desk

7 x USB-A5 V / 3.5 A adapter included66 cm cable in the boxPiano-black with aluminium edge

The DIGITUS DA-70222 is a compact desktop hub that adds seven USB 2.0 ports and ships with everything needed to use them: a 5 V / 3.5 A power supply and a 66 cm connection cable. At 85 x 44 mm with a piano-black finish and an aluminium edge it is built to sit on a desk rather than behind one, and at 290 g it stays put when seven cables tug at it. Plug and play on Windows and macOS, with no driver to install.

Compatibility — check before buying:
The upstream socket on the hub is USB Mini-B, not the Micro-B or USB-C you may expect — the supplied 66 cm USB-A to Mini-B cable is a specific part, so keep it with the hub. Every port is USB 2.0 at up to 480 Mbps, shared across all seven: a flash drive or external SSD will mount and work, but at a small fraction of its rated speed. The host plug is USB-A, so a laptop with only USB-C needs an adapter you supply. Two figures differ between DIGITUS’ own datasheet and shop listing — 0.29 kg and 0.31 kg for the weight — but nothing that changes the purchase.

Best For

✓ Desktop PCs that have run out of front ports
✓ Keyboards, mice and wireless receivers
✓ Licence and security dongles
✓ Printers, scanners and label printers
✓ Reception and counter setups
✓ Anyone who wants the power supply and cable included

Key Features

Everything is in the box
A 5 V / 3.5 A power supply and a 66 cm USB Mini-B connection cable come with the hub — no second order, and the ports are fed from the mains rather than from a single computer socket.

Seven ports in 85 mm
A 85 x 44 x 14 mm footprint with a piano-black top and an aluminium edge, at 290 g including the supply — small enough for a crowded desk, heavy enough not to slide.

No drivers, no configuration
Plug and play on Windows and macOS. The hub appears as soon as it is connected and devices can be added and removed while the machine is running.

Frequently Asked Questions

What cable does it use, and what if I lose it?
The socket on the hub is USB Mini-B — the small trapezoidal connector that used to be standard on cameras and older peripherals — and DIGITUS supplies a 66 cm USB-A to Mini-B cable in the box. It is not the Micro-B used on portable drives and not USB-C, so a generic hub cable will not fit. Keep the supplied one, and if it does go missing, tell us and we will match the right replacement.
Will a USB stick or external drive run at full speed?
No. All seven ports are USB 2.0, capped at 480 Mbps and shared between them. A flash drive will mount and work, and for occasional file transfers it is perfectly usable, but a modern USB 3.0 stick will run at a fraction of its rated speed. If moving large files is why you want the hub, choose a 5 Gbps model and keep this one for peripherals.
Why does a seven-port hub need its own power supply?
Because a single computer USB port cannot feed seven devices. Without a supply, hubs start dropping devices as you fill them — usually the one you needed. The included 5 V / 3.5 A adapter feeds the ports directly from the mains, so keyboards, mice, receivers, dongles, printers and scanners all stay connected at once. It also means the hub keeps working when the computer is off, which is useful for charging small devices overnight.
Singular Expert Insight
A seven-port USB 2.0 hub with the supply and the cable already in the box is a solved problem, and this is a well-made version of it. Where it belongs is the peripheral end of our USB hub range: keyboards, mice, receivers, dongles, printers and scanners together never approach 480 Mbps, so the USB 2.0 limitation costs nothing and keeps the price down. Where it does not belong is storage — copying to and from USB flash drives at 480 Mbps shared is the difference between seconds and minutes, and that is what the 5 Gbps models are for. The one practical thing to remember is the Mini-B upstream socket: the supplied 66 cm cable is a specific part and worth keeping with the hub rather than in a drawer.

Buyer’s Guide

Buy it if

You need seven ports on a desk for peripherals and you want the power supply and cable included. Your computer has a USB-A port. You want a small, weighted hub that sits on the desk rather than hanging off it.

Skip it if

You are connecting external drives or fast flash drives — USB 2.0 shared across seven ports is the wrong hub. Your laptop only has USB-C. You want individual per-port switches or a longer host cable.

Also consider

A 5 Gbps powered hub if any of the devices are storage. A USB-C hub if the machine has no full-size USB port. A ten- or thirteen-port USB 2.0 hub if seven sockets will not be enough.
