The DIGITUS DN-81001-01 is a Gigabit SFP transceiver for single-mode fibre, coded for HP and HP Aruba switches: 1000BASE-LX at 1310 nm over an LC duplex connection, up to 20 km on 9/125 µm fibre. It gives HP / Aruba networks a lower-cost LX optic for links between buildings. In practice, single-mode optics are the choice when a link leaves the building or runs several hundred metres: the OS2 fibre used by carriers and campus backbones carries the signal for kilometres with little loss. Before you order, confirm the fibre is single-mode at both ends and note the length and the number of patch panels on the way.
Compatibility — check before buying:
It carries HP / HP Aruba coding; DIGITUS publishes no list of specific switch models, so send us yours first. It is a duplex module on two single-mode fibres and needs an LX module at the far end. Do not confuse it with the Cisco-coded DN-81001-02 or with the single-fibre BiDi DN-81003-01. Keep the dust cap on until you connect the fibre, and clean both connector ends before every mating — dirt is the most common cause of a link that will not come up. Not sure? Built for single-mode (OS1/OS2) fibre, the type used between buildings, floors and sites. It will not run over the orange or aqua multimode fibre found in many racks — the fibre type has to match at both ends.

Modules and cables plug into a live port without shutting the switch down, so a link can be added or replaced during working hours. Seat it until it clicks and use the latch or pull tab to remove it.
Plan both ends together
A link only comes up when both ends use the same standard, speed and media. Order the far-end part, the cable and any spares in one go and the link works on day one.
