The DIGITUS DN-81003-01 is a Gigabit BiDi SFP transceiver coded for HP and HP Aruba switches: it transmits at 1310 nm and receives at 1550 nm over one single-mode fibre through an LC simplex connector, up to 20 km, and it supports digital diagnostics (DDM). It lets an HP / Aruba link run on a single free strand. In practice, BiDi modules are the answer when a building link has only one free single-mode strand, or when you want to double the links on an existing pair. They are always bought as a matched pair: one end transmits 1310 nm, the other 1550 nm. Before you order, confirm the fibre is single-mode and note the length and the patch panels on the way.
Compatibility — check before buying:
It uses one fibre and an LC simplex connector — it is not a two-fibre LX module. The far end must be a BiDi module that sends 1550 nm and receives 1310 nm; two DN-81003-01 will not link. DIGITUS does not name the HP-coded partner part, so ask us before ordering. It carries HP / HP Aruba coding with no published switch list. Keep the dust cap on until you connect the fibre, and clean both connector ends before every mating — dirt is the most common cause of a link that will not come up. Not sure?
