The DIGITUS DN-81201 is a 10 Gbit SFP+ transceiver for single-mode fibre, reaching up to 10 km at 1310 nm over a duplex LC connection, with digital diagnostics. It carries generic MSA coding and DIGITUS lists compatibility with a wide range of switch brands, so it suits networks that do not lock their SFP+ ports to one vendor. In practice, single-mode optics are the choice when a link leaves the building or runs several hundred metres: the OS2 fibre used by carriers and campus backbones carries the signal for kilometres with little loss. Before you order, confirm the fibre is single-mode at both ends and note the length and the number of patch panels on the way.
Compatibility — check before buying:
This is the generic MSA version. For HP and HP Aruba switches, DIGITUS sells the HP-coded DN-81201-01. Switches that accept only their own brand of optics may refuse it. It needs single-mode fibre and will not carry the link over multimode. Keep the dust cap on until you connect the fibre, and clean both connector ends before every mating — dirt is the most common cause of a link that will not come up. Not sure?
