DIGITUS DN-82010-1 — Fast Ethernet Media Converter, RJ45 to ST Multimode, 2 km
10/100 → 100Base-FXST duplex multimode1310 nm · 2 kmPower adapter included
The DIGITUS DN-82010-1 is a Fast Ethernet media converter that links a 10/100Base-TX RJ45 copper port to 100Base-FX over multimode fibre with ST duplex connectors, reaching up to 2 km at 1310 nm.
It works with both 50/125 µm and 62.5/125 µm multimode fibre, which makes it a good fit for extending or repairing older campus and industrial fibre runs that were installed with ST connectors.
Before you order: the fibre port is ST (bayonet), not SC or LC. If your patch panel is LC or SC, order an ST-to-LC or ST-to-SC multimode duplex patch cord as well.
What's in the Box
- 1 × DIGITUS DN-82010-1 media converter
- 1 × power adapter (5 V DC)
- Quick installation guide
What It Means in Practice
- Plug the RJ45 port into your switch (10/100 auto) and the two ST connectors into the fibre pair — transmit on one side must reach receive on the other.
- At the far end you need the same fibre interface: a second DN-82010-1 (or another multimode ST converter at 1310 nm) or a switch port with a matching 100BASE-FX optic.
- Optical budget published by DIGITUS: transmit power -22 to -12 dBm, receiver sensitivity -30 dBm — enough for 2 km of multimode with a few connector pairs.
- It is a plug-and-play, unmanaged converter: no IP address or configuration, it simply passes Ethernet frames between copper and fibre.
What Will Not Work
- Gigabit links — the fibre side is fixed at 100 Mbps; a 1000BASE-X SFP port on a switch will not link to it.
- Single-mode (OS2) fibre — this converter is multimode only.
- SC or LC ports without an ST adapter cable.
- Power over Ethernet — the RJ45 port neither supplies nor takes PoE power.
- VLAN, monitoring or any managed features — this is an unmanaged converter.

Frequently Asked Questions
Singular Expert Insight · Buyer's Guide
ST-terminated multimode is common in older campus and factory installations. A pair of these converters keeps that fibre in service without re-terminating it; if you later move to Gigabit, the uplink belongs on network switches with SFP optics.
✓ Buy it if your multimode fibre is terminated with ST connectors and 100 Mbps over up to 2 km is enough.
✕ Skip it if the fibre is single-mode, the panel is SC/LC and you do not want adapter cords, or you need Gigabit.
→ Also consider the LevelOne FVT-1101 if your multimode fibre is terminated with SC connectors.
