DIGITUS DS-33170 — Add Two M.2 SSDs to a Desktop That Has None
1× M-Key NVMe + 1× B-Key SATAPCIe 3.0 x4 · 32 GT/s2230 / 2242 / 2260 / 2280SATA cable + both brackets
The DIGITUS DS-33170 is a PCI Express add-on card that lets a desktop PC take M.2 SSDs even when the motherboard has no M.2 slot left — or none at all. It carries two drives at once: one M-Key NVMe SSD that runs at full PCIe 3.0 x4 speed through the slot, and one B-Key or B+M-Key M.2 SATA SSD that reaches the motherboard over the supplied SATA cable. It is the practical way to reuse an M.2 drive you already own, or to add fast storage to an older tower that was built before M.2 existed.
Compatibility — check before buying:
This card is empty — no SSD is included. You need a free PCIe x4, x8 or x16 slot; the card also works in PCIe 2.0 and 1.0 boards at their lower speed. Drives up to 80 mm long fit (2230, 2242, 2260, 2280); a 22110 (110 mm) drive does not fit. The two sockets are not interchangeable: an NVMe drive only works in the M-Key socket, an M.2 SATA drive only in the B-Key socket, and that SATA socket must be cabled to a free SATA port on your motherboard with the included cable — if every SATA port is already taken, that half of the card cannot be used. There is no heatsink on this card.
Best For
✓ Older towers with no M.2 slot on the motherboard
✓ Adding a second M.2 SSD when the board slot is full
✓ Reusing an M.2 SATA SSD pulled from a laptop
✓ Workshop and service benches that test loose M.2 drives
✓ Builds that need NVMe and M.2 SATA at the same time
✓ Low-profile and small-form-factor desktops
Key Features
Two drives, two different protocols
One card handles both M.2 worlds. The M-Key socket takes a PCIe NVMe SSD and runs it straight over the slot at up to 32 GT/s. The B-Key socket takes an M.2 SATA SSD at up to 6 Gbps through the bundled cable. Most single-slot cards make you choose one or the other.
Fits any x4 slot or larger
DIGITUS specifies a PCI Express 3.0 x4 card that drops into an x4, x8 or x16 slot, and stays backwards compatible with PCIe 2.0 and 1.0 mainboards. Power comes from the slot itself at 3.3 V, so there is no extra power lead to route.
Both brackets in the box
A low-profile slot bracket is included alongside the standard one, so the same card goes into a slim office desktop or a full-size tower. Two fastening screws and a small screwdriver are included for mounting the SSDs themselves.

Singular Expert Insight
The DS-33170 is worth choosing over a single-socket card when you have two M.2 drives to house, or when you are not certain which type your spare SSD is — it accepts both. Against the Conceptronic EMRICK04B, which is the closest equivalent and also carries one NVMe plus one SATA M.2 with a cable in the box, the DIGITUS card publishes wider operating-system support (Linux and Windows Server included) but ships no heatsink at all; the EMRICK04B includes a silicone thermal pad. If the drive you plan to fit is a hot-running NVMe SSD, plan for airflow over the card or pick the EMRICK05BS with its aluminium heatsink instead. Browse our full range of storage controllers and adapter cards or the internal SSDs that go in them.
Buyer’s Guide
Buy it if
You have a desktop with no free M.2 slot and a spare PCIe x4 or larger slot, and you want to fit an NVMe drive, an M.2 SATA drive, or one of each on a single card. The low-profile bracket makes it work in slim office desktops too.
Skip it if
You need a 22110 drive, you want a heatsink included, or every SATA port on your motherboard is already occupied and the M.2 drive you own is a SATA one. Skip it if you only ever need a single NVMe drive — a simpler one-socket card costs less.
Also consider
The Conceptronic EMRICK04B is the same two-socket concept with a silicone heatsink included. For NVMe only, the EMRICK05BS adds an aluminium heatsink, and the ICY BOX IB-PCI214M2-HSL adds a large heatsink with both brackets.
