Digitus Professional SFP+ 10G DAC Cable — 0.5 m, HPE coded

0.5 mSFP+ to SFP+10 GbpsHPE coded

The Digitus Professional DN-81220-01 is a 0.5 m SFP+-to-SFP+ direct attach copper (DAC) cable that links two 10G ports — switch to switch, switch to server network card or switch to storage — without buying two optical transceivers and a fibre patch cord.

This is the HPE-coded version: its module EEPROM identifies it so that HPE/Aruba and H3C switches accept it as a supported cable. Digitus specifies it for 10 Gigabit Ethernet and Fibre Channel links between switches in backbone areas, with DDM/DOM support so the switch can read module information.

Before you order: This cable is coded for HPE/Aruba and H3C switches. For Cisco, Dell, Juniper, MikroTik or other ports that expect MSA/universal modules, order DN-81220 instead.

What's in the Box

  • 1 × Digitus SFP+ DAC cable, 0.5 m, with fixed SFP+ plugs on both ends
  • 1 × quick installation guide

What It Means in Practice

  • 0.5 m is enough to join two ports on the same switch or two devices stacked directly above each other in the same rack.
  • No transceivers to buy: each end is a fixed SFP+ plug, so one cable replaces two short-range optics plus a fibre patch cord — less cost and lower latency on short links.
  • Plug it into the SFP+ cage at each end; the link comes up at 10G when both ports support that speed.
  • Copper twinax is thicker and stiffer than fibre — leave a gentle loop at the port instead of folding it sharply against the cage.

What Will Not Work

  • RJ45 / 10GBASE-T copper ports — a DAC needs a SFP+ cage at both ends.
  • QSFP+/QSFP28 ports — this cable has SFP+ plugs and does not fit 40/100G ports without an adapter.
  • Runs longer than 0.5 m — the length is fixed; for longer distances use SFP+ optics and fibre.
  • 1G-only SFP ports — many of them do not link with a 10G DAC; check with us first.

Key Features

Direct attach, no optics
Factory-terminated SFP+ plugs on twinax copper. Nothing to clean, no separate transceivers to match or lose.

HPE coding
Coded for HPE/Aruba and H3C switches, so the switch recognises it as a supported module.

Data rate
1.0625–10.52 Gbps (10GbE at 10.3125 Gbps)

Power and temperature
3.3 V supply, 0.5 W power consumption, operating temperature 0 to 70 °C.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use it between a switch and a server network card?
Yes, as long as both have SFP+ ports and the card accepts HPE-coded modules. Some cards (for example Intel X520/X710 families) only accept modules they recognise — send us the card model and we check it.
DAC or fibre — which should I choose?
For links inside a rack or to the next rack, a DAC is cheaper and simpler. Choose SFP+ optics with fibre for longer runs, for links between rooms, or where thinner cable matters.
Do I need to configure anything?
Normally no. Most switches detect the DAC and bring up the link automatically. On switches that block third-party modules, the coding has to match — see the note at the top of this page.
Singular Expert Insight · Buyer's Guide
A DAC is the most economical way to connect 10G equipment that sits close together. The two decisions are length and coding: measure the real cable path (not the straight-line distance) and match the coding to the switch brand. Browse our switches if you are planning the rest of the link.
✓ Buy it if you are connecting two SFP+ ports up to 0.5 m apart on HPE/Aruba or H3C switches.
✕ Skip it if your ports are RJ45, your run is longer than 0.5 m, or your switch is not HPE/Aruba/H3C.
→ Also consider DN-81220 — the same Digitus 0.5 m SFP+ DAC with universal MSA coding for Cisco, Dell, Juniper and other ports.
Not sure which coding or length you need? Send us the switch and network card models and we will check compatibility before you order.
