DIGITUS 4K HDMI Extender Set, HDBaseT — up to 70 m over One Network Cable
HDBaseTUp to 70 m over CAT4K/30Hz up to 40 mBidirectional IR
The DIGITUS DS-55500 is a wired HDMI extender set that uses HDBaseT technology to carry HDMI video and audio over a single network cable between a transmitter and a receiver — up to 70 m for HD content and up to 40 m for 4K/30Hz content on CAT 6 cable. It is the classic way to place a projector, a meeting-room screen or a bar TV far away from the source in a fixed installation.
Because the signal runs over a copper CAT cable instead of radio, the picture is steady and the delay is negligible. A bidirectional IR link lets you use the source’s remote control from the screen end, and CEC, Deep Color and compressed and uncompressed audio formats (Dolby Digital, DTS, Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD, LPCM) are passed through.
Before you order: Distance depends on resolution and cable: 4K/30Hz up to 40 m with CAT 6 or better, lower resolutions up to 70 m. Use solid-core, continuous CAT cable without patch panels or network switches in between — HDBaseT is a point-to-point link, not a network protocol.
What's in the Box
- 1× HDMI extender transmitter unit
- 1× HDMI extender receiver unit
- 2× power supply units (DC 12V/2A)
- 1× IR transmitter unit
- 1× IR receiver unit
- 2× fixing kits incl. screws
- 1× operating instructions
What It Means in Practice
- Run one CAT 5e/6/6A/7 cable between the two units — no Ethernet switch in the path.
- Both ends have their own 12V power supply (included).
- Point the IR receiver where the remote is used, place the IR emitter at the source — your existing remote now works from the other room.
- The fixing kits let you screw the units to a wall, under a desk or behind a display.
What Will Not Work
- No 4K/60Hz — 4K is supported at 30Hz (up to 4096x2160).
- Not for routing over an office LAN or through a switch; use an IP extender (e.g. DS-55517) for that.
- No USB / keyboard-mouse extension (no KVM).
- Not one-to-many: one transmitter feeds one receiver.
- No PoE: each unit needs its power supply.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which cable should I use?
Solid-core CAT 6 or better for 4K; CAT 5e works for HD at shorter runs. Avoid CCA cable and keep the run continuous.
Can it go through my network switch?
No. HDBaseT needs a direct cable between transmitter and receiver.
Does it carry 5.1 surround?
Yes — Dolby Digital, DTS and their HD versions are passed through to your amplifier or TV.
Singular Expert Insight · Buyer's Guide
HDBaseT is the installer’s favourite for a reason: one cable, zero fuss, picture that does not drop. The DS-55500 is a solid choice for HD runs up to 70 m and 4K/30 up to 40 m; for 4K/60 over longer runs step up to the DS-55508. Pair it with good solid-core
network cables — cable quality decides the reach.
✓ Buy it if you need a reliable wired HDMI link of up to 70 m (or 4K/30 up to 40 m) with remote control from the screen end.
✕ Skip it if you need 4K/60Hz, KVM control or to send the signal through your LAN.
→ Also consider DIGITUS DS-55508 (HDBaseT 4K/60, up to 150 m, RS-232) or DS-55506 (4K/60 over CAT up to 70 m, PoC).
