The EFB-Elektronik SFP1000LX is a Gigabit SFP transceiver for single-mode fibre, coded as Cisco GLC-LH-SMD: 1000BASE-LX with a 1310 nm Fabry-Perot laser over an LC duplex connection, up to 20 km on 9/125 µm fibre, with digital diagnostics. EFB states it also works in standard MSA SFP ports. In practice, single-mode optics are the choice when a link leaves the building or runs several hundred metres: the OS2 fibre used by carriers and campus backbones carries the signal for kilometres with little loss. Before you order, confirm the fibre is single-mode at both ends and note the length and the number of patch panels on the way.
Compatibility — check before buying:
It is coded as Cisco GLC-LH-SMD; HP / Aruba switches that check optics may refuse it. It needs single-mode fibre on two strands and an LX module at the far end — it will not run on multimode fibre and will not pair with a single-fibre BiDi module. On very short runs a 20 km optic can overload the receiver; tell us the distance. Keep the dust cap on until you connect the fibre, and clean both connector ends before every mating — dirt is the most common cause of a link that will not come up. Not sure?
