Emtec C280 Type-C 3.2 — 128 GB USB-C Swivel Drive in Recycled Plastic
USB Type-C only128 GB80 MB/s read / 20 MB/s write100% recycled plastic
The Emtec C280 is a 128 GB USB 3.2 Gen 1 flash drive with a single USB Type-C connector, housed in a swivel body made from 100 per cent recycled plastic. Emtec publishes up to 80 MB/s read and up to 20 MB/s write for the range, and lists it for Windows, macOS, Android and iOS devices that have a Type-C port.
Compatibility — check before buying:
This drive has one connector, and it is USB Type-C. It will not enter the standard rectangular USB-A port on a desktop or an older laptop, and no adapter is included. That is the design, not an oversight — but it is also the mistake worth avoiding, because Emtec sells the D280 Dual under part number ECMMD128GD283, which differs from this one by a single letter and carries both a USB-A and a USB-C plug at the same published speeds. If any machine you use still has rectangular ports, the D280 is the one to order. On a phone or tablet, the device needs a Type-C port and support for USB storage: recent Android devices, USB-C iPhones and iPads qualify, while a Lightning iPhone does not. Note also that Emtec publishes only the length of this drive, 37 mm open and 40.5 mm closed, and no width, thickness or weight.
Best For
✓ Adding storage to a USB-C Android phone, tablet or iPhone
✓ Laptops that have dropped USB-A altogether
✓ Buyers who want a recycled-plastic housing as part of the decision
✓ Moving photographs and recordings off a phone without a cloud account
✓ Anyone who prefers a swivel to a cap that gets lost
✓ Carrying files between USB-C devices at home and at work
Key Features
Native USB Type-C
A real Type-C plug rather than an adapter fitted to a USB-A stick. It goes straight into a phone, a tablet, a MacBook or a USB-C Windows laptop.
Swivel body, nothing to lose
The housing rotates to expose or cover the connector, so there is no separate cap to leave on a desk. Emtec gives the two positions as 37 mm open and 40.5 mm closed.
100 per cent recycled plastic
Emtec states that the housing is entirely recycled plastic. Among flash drives that is still rare enough to be worth stating plainly.
80 read, 20 write — both published
Emtec prints both halves of the speed for this range rather than a read-only headline, so you know what the slower direction costs you before you buy.

Singular Expert Insight
A USB-C-only stick is the right shape for a world where phones, tablets and an increasing number of laptops have nothing else — and the swivel means there is no cap to lose on a drive small enough to lose anyway. Emtec also does two things worth crediting: it publishes the write speed as well as the read, and it states that the housing is recycled plastic. The risk sits entirely in the part number. ECMMD128GC283 is this USB-C-only drive; ECMMD128GD283 is the dual-connector D280. One character decides whether the drive fits your laptop. If you want both connectors, look at the dual-ended models in our USB flash drives range. For large working files rather than carried files, an external SSD is the better class of product.
Buyer’s Guide
Buy it if
Every device you use has a USB-C port, you want 128 GB in a swivel body with nothing to lose, and a recycled-plastic housing is a plus rather than a gimmick to you.
Skip it if
Any machine you use still has a rectangular USB-A port — buy the D280 Dual instead. Or you need exact dimensions and a weight before ordering, which Emtec does not publish.
